I can’t blame them, if only the same had been done here months ago when flights were still allowed in from China and Italy we might have been in a much better position today.

Once you have confirmed virus in the population the only hope is to manage the impact.
Considering we are a year in from the first mutterings of a virus we should have, with hindsight, cancelled last Christmas and pulled up the drawbridge then.
Then folk would have said it was an over reaction......

Also thinking these latest bans on travel to other countries is a political one.
Not sure how a French government trapping French lorry drivers in the UK for Christmas is political. Imports are sill coming in. It's the virus......!

Not sure if it was asked on this thread or another (so put on another thread as well) but evidence/supposition that the new variant is spreading through schools/the kids.
I'd seen that too.

Full School closures looming in January then, and including Primary schools too!

In fact Secondary were going to be pretty much closed (with the exception of exam years I think) for the first week in any case to help them roll out mass testing. If that happens, I would expect grassroots U18 sports to be stopped too, as they were in both previous lockdowns.

And universities I hope.

It would seem logical if the supposition looks likely (as far as it can in such a short time) from their research etc. I just hope the Govt take the plunge early enough which would be the main variable in this.

I don’t think even Boris can manage time travel.
Everywhere else implements restrictions then has an argument about the politics. Not independent Britain (or Trumpland), where it is more important to have the argument first.

Every decision that is made is managed to make it the softest crash landing rather than piling the plane into the mountain at full tilt.

We will never know if anyone else could do better as we, hopefully, will not see another pandemic.

The globe is at 1.7 million deaths on a planet that is far more populated than it was in 1918 when an estimated 50 million died globally.

I think if you look at the way other countries have dealt with it worldwide, there is a better way, there is also a worse way to be fair. But you cannot run away from the fact that the UK response has been in the lower quartile of the world's responses.
To be fair most of the best responses are from countries who learnt from responding to The Sars virus and not afraid to take draconian action at the beginning.

400 new cases in Oxfordshire on the list 24 hours, are they really going to wait until the 30th to make anymore changes??

Don`t count cases because most folk are perfectly able to look after themselves and get over it.

Do count hospital admissions that is the key number.

Do count "cases per 100k" as that gives you an idea of the transmission rate in the community.

400 cases isn`t many, we`ve been knocking along at that rate for months up here!!

What's the cases per 100k for Oxon?

I think they are! Its petrifying. The scientific researchers i know are utterly shitting it- there is a real worry from some patterns they are seeing in London that this strain may actually be more lethal too, by numbers in hospital/on vents. This is what happened with Spanish Flu.

Xmas or no Xmas, people need to be given stay home orders, no visitors, for a month.
