International News Black Lives Matter

"Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set;
God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet,"

Yes as I said I would expect a person with your opinions to find a song believing that God has given Britain special privileges which should be used to conquer others to give you a certain frisson of excitement.

I imagine you need a cold shower afterwards

I bet you do! Saucy.

I've been trying to process this post in my head for over 12 hours now.

Primarily, I would say that of course sports stars should not feel obliged to take the knee, or be hounded for it if they do not. Most of those who opted against doing so have come out with statements committing themselves to the fight against racism anyway.

You'd like colour to be removed from this conversation. The conversation about perceived racism and colour-based prejudice.

Life is about respect for people. And a section of the general population feel like they aren't respected due a genetic feature of themselves that they cannot - nor would ever want to - change.

They would also like to get to a stage where colour is not a part of the conversation. You say that history needs to be learned, but want to remove an integral part of their history from the conversation, by removing colour from the conversation, you deny a teaching of the history of subjugation and then discrimination they experienced for centuries, and how it feeds into the state of play in modern times.

It does completely divide people in several ways. The fix is not to get people to back down and not have the conversation. The fix is to have the conversation now, in one big go, so that this can be one large opportunity to teach, to understand, to accept, and to look at how to move forward.
The thing is though history can’t be changed and until people of all sides learn respect across the world nothing will be changed. Blatant racism on a mass scale goes on in Africa( all types of people) China( Muslims) India( Nepalese sex workers) and the Middle East to name 4 places. Maybe people would be better off checking these things from today a bit more.
As I said regardless of colour creed and religion it is about respect because racism goes on across the world that needs to stop and whether people like it or not until there is respect there is no proper conversation.

Exactly this, start at the base line we are all human beings and deserve equal treatment & respect in both directions!
Of course the extremists on both sides will want to shut down that conversation and resort to insults.
The majority will, eventually, overcome the extremists.

What about extremists who demand that black people have to show compliance if they wish not to be shot by police?

What is wrong with compliance to authority? How the situation progresses depends on the choices made by both "sides".
Person gets aggressive, situation escalates outcome gets worse........... look at any town on a Saturday night with drunks and idiots.

If someone points out that black people are disproportionately stopped by the police then that’s also stating a fact.

Why do you put the word “rights“ in quotation marks when speaks of minorities? Are you suggesting that minorities don’t have rights, or shouldn’t have rights?

Why do you claim that the rights of any citizen “out-weighs” the majority of society? What do you mean? Please give examples.

Here is a live example for you.

" Under present UK human fertilisation rules, if Ellie was in a relationship when she died, her partner would have had the right to ask for her sperm to be retained. Her mother does not have that right. "

Now my opinion related to human fertilisation rules may well be far different to other,s however there has to be a base line for the benefit of the future child.
There has to be at least one significant parent or partner around to care for and raise the child.
Ellie`s mother is planning on using a surrogate parent, a donor egg (neither of whom will be there for the child) and Ellie`s frozen sperm.
The law allows a challenge but the challenge is purely to satisfy one persons perceived "rights".

This is like Essexyellows, bashamwonderland and GaryBaldi turning up to the BLM thread on the forum ??

We can all do that........ BLM protest in France.......... but its the far Left.......... "Dirty Jews"... not worth a laughing smiley really.

Unlikely to be the far left since it was the far right that murdered Jews, remember?

The far left like to hijack whatever they can, political parties or political movements.

When you talk about "Nige" you mean the HitlerYouth supporting stockbroker with a German passport who pretends to be a man of the people.

See you're also a fan of Laurence Fox.

You really will listen to any old posh snake oil salesman as long as they are in the Daily Telegraph

Well I've listened to the whole thing and felt slightly embarrassed by both 'points of view'. There was much talk of 'distraction' and shutting down opposing opinions, yet both were trying to do just that. Farage found an irrelevant way to bring Marxism into the debate, while his opponent espoused what are already tired old comments about imperialism.

Didn't hear anything new or informative, and the idea that anyone 'owned' anyone else in saying nothing of any importance is rather strange.
