International News Covid-19 .....

Less than 70,000 tests today so missed the target 4 days in a row. There was a massive push at my work last week to support the 30 April date which was/wasn’t achieved depending on your point of view but now......Hancock having a bit of a shocker in a number of fronts.

What more can be done to increase the number of tests? The capacity to test far exceeds the target number, mobile testing is available to target hotspots or work areas, home testing is available, and all of this is easy to book and applicable to ALL keyworkers and those in the same household, ALL symptomatic individuals and ALL in high risk groups.

Unless you start testing for the sake of it, or enforce testing, then I'm not sure how you can hold the government responsible for tests not being done.

I think Hancock has been having a shocker for a long time to be honest!

You need the people to require testing, supply is more than meeting demand.

If you haven`t got symptoms a swab test, those tests you can book online or get delivered, is akin to urinating into the wind.

The swab test is reliant on physically catching the virus RNA and then conducting a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test on the swab, this only works well if the patient is "active" so has the virus and is symptomatic.

Occasionally you might "get lucky" if you swab people who have no symptoms but are carrying the virus.

If social distancing and hygiene are working you get fewer symptomatic people and therefore fewer people book tests.

Yes, but when eventually the number of new infections falls to the hundreds and we can bring in meaningful tracking and tracing then tests will be relevant. Delighted to see contact tracing has been outsourced to SERCO (15,000 call-centre staff and 3,000 local authority H & S)*.

* It's in Private Eye. I can't be bothered to walk into the kitchen and get it as my spirits have been battered into a paste by Robert Jenrick.

Yes, I agree. Numbers just announced do not seem to be going down much though. It will be interesting to see what Boris says on Sunday.
You can see a very definite drop in deaths on a weekly basis thank goodness. Nowhere near big enough drop of course, this is an absolute bastard of a disease and can really string out its agony.

But, whats really concerning is the infection rates just not shifting. Even with increased testing, in a lockdown, even partially as we are, youd expect a much lower number 7 weeks on. I dread to think what it would be like without distancing, but surely it makes any loosening absolutely ludicrous until we have more of a handle on where these people are picking it up from....

Who really would want to work for the Tories? They will throw anyone under the bus in order to bury bad news.
It’s not news though is it .
Long known that they halted test, track and trace because there was insufficient capacity at the time.

I'm back from the front line. I haven't read all the posts but this government has fucked up and continues to do so. 6000 new cases but let's all get out of lock down and get the herd immunity over and done with. Test, track and trace, that should work with thousands of new cases each day. No point in closing our borders, other countries are providing rescue flights to get their nationals out of here. Seriously who would want to come here? Best form of quarantine, make your country one of the worst covid hot spots in the world. At least Boris will meet his immigration targets now! Don't get me started on PPE (or lack of it)! Then there is the high risk groups! The WHO and most other governments list hypertension as a major risk factor! Not our Boris, that would just be too many people in a high risk group, let them die instead say our government! Our NHS wasn't overwhelmed like Italy says our Boris! That's because so many people died without actually going to hospital like lucky Boris did! No underlying health condition and you can talk without struggling to breathe, don't need to go to hospital then!

im glad you find the fact that at least 22 000 more people in Britain have died than have in Germany amusing @Scotchegg

I'm sure those like @Followtheox1 who are inadequately equipped out on the front line will share your amusement- as will those on here who have lost family and not even been able to grieve them properly
