Home Match Day Thread +++ 18/02/20 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon +++

With Brannagan, Taylor and Henry now looking fit and Browne also playing games, it is hardly surprising that we are looking more likely to score.
Losing those 3 (plus Fosu) was clearly going to affect our goals scored .
If they all keep fit the goals should start coming again.

Pleasing to see Holland starting to chip in with goals as well. He’s slowly coming out of his shell and adjusting to proper football outside of the academy leagues. Hopefully once the games start to spread out a bit more and the pitches start to improve with warmer weather, we can start keeping people fit and healthy a little easier. If Henry and Brannagan are at their best in midfield then that alone is a game changer more often than not.

Just got home, don't think I've ever witnessed a more one sided game. Considering we scored 5 goals, Taylor hit the bar, their keeper pulled of 2 worldie saves in the first half, 2 pens not given in the first half and I can only remember easty having to make a couple of saves. I know it's only Wimbledon but if we play like that for the rest of the season I reckon we can pinch a play off spot. We came out hungry and were so aggressive. Only negative I will probably get shot at for was I'm not sure why Robbo bought Mackie on when we could of gave a bit of game time to Spasov since we were 4-0 up. Onwards to Ipswich let's hope this wasn't a one off and we show abit of consistency.

Bloody close though!!!
Oh come on. We haven't looked like beating anyone 5-0 for quite a while that's being honest. But I'm as pleased as you are that we did. And why on another post did you label me as being miserable. What evidence is there for that? Stupid comment.

Got the Mous injury spot on, sadly.

We ran rings around them too, almost took the P**s out of them in a way that is a bit cheeky, but as they are so chippy at Robbo and Mackie, feels even sweeter to do that to them. Proper mugged them off.

Not a bad performance among the players, so end product issues but exactly the performance the players needed but also a performance/result that some fans needed too. Plenty of points to play for and teams to get them on.

And this is even better
It’s still on now.

Changed my match day routine today. Decided to go for an all over massage on the beach. Extreme times demand extreme measures. If it gets us 3 points today I will have to take 1 for the team and repeat the process on Saturday. Hard life out here in the sun ☀ COYY

All over massage and a “happy ending”...what is not to like ?

I said miserable posters won't see my comment as they don't come on after a win not you specifically.

And you're right, we haven't looked like beating anyone 5 nil for a while, but that's the point of optimism. As I've said elsewhere, I think we'll get 3 wins and a draw from tonight and the next 3 games to kick start our revival. We've been getting players back fit and had a team that we could really go at, and it paid off. Once we got the first goal the confidence started flowing and we looked like scoring everytime we went forward. It's important to have confidence throughout the club, not just on the pitch. And that's why I get frustrated with negativity on here. We've got nearly 1/3rd of the season left and definitely have a chance to grab a playoff place. So let's share the success of this win and go forward to Saturday for the same again.

Great game. No clear clear MOTM but for me Moore was very, very good. Imperious in the air and good on the ball.
Agree. Moore is improving rapidly in ability and confidence. But it’s the form of Henry and Brannagan which is most encouraging; I thought they dominated the midfield. And great to see Taylor looking really sharp again.

Said exactly the same when Mackie came on

Reading Tigers programme notes made for an interesting read and it’s clear he has the PR machine whirring away. To me his argument about three loanees coming in to replace two highly established permanent players is fundamentally flawed and that is economical with the truth which is that we are highly depleted and have a 5% chance at best of making the playoffs. Will this stop us coming? No of course not! I’ve already bought my Ipswich ticket cos I owe it to the player’s that are left to get behind them. However, Tiger is either deluded to the reality or just employing smoke and mirrors. Not sure which is worse!
" Highly established permanent players" - one was only with us for half a season, the other made 8 league starts. Some are really building TF and SB into mythical heroes.

Well that was a slaughter. Wimbledon were extremely lucky to escape with just the 5.
So many chances, we were queuing up to score.
I notice that people are quick to say how poor they were, but I prefer to look at how much we looked like a real team again. How good were we?
We were so aggressive in hunting down the ball. To a man we were furious. Vicious.
Cameron Brannagan was simply tremendous tonight. He linked up, tackled, tore them down in an absolute midfield masterclass.
Also special mention must go to Mark Sykes who was another (of many) who put in a stellar performance.
When we all click like that, there are very few teams that can live with us.
As for goal chances, it was like a groundhog leap year at Christmas.
All credit to Karl and the whole team who gave us one of the best home performances of the season.
We can kick on from here. It will be tough, but play like that from here on in and it can be done!

Best performance of the season tonight. Don’t care that Wimbledon played like they had all 22 legs tied together; this was a coherent and powerful OUFC statement. We could have scored 10. And tonight we had plenty of ball winning dog as well. Keep the same starting 11 for Saturday.

Really enjoyed Thorne’s cameo; considering he can’t really run he’s a hell of a player.

Man of match: Henry, what a great finish for his goal as well.

well done boys, needed that win and performance.
just had a look on the wombles forum to see what they made of it - gave up after about a minute. what an awful layout and crappy format they've got

The tackle on Taylor in the box was never a penalty, but can see why fans in east stand may have thought it was from their angle.

Don't worry, no one will see it. The miserable lot don't come on here after a win!!!

You really are a rather obnoxious and toxic individual. This forum would be far more pleasant without your constant snide remarks and ridiculous spin. I realise that’s a wasted sentence on you though as you appear to have delusions of self-grandeur.....even after a 5-0 victory you manage to poison the well though when everyone else was just happy to enjoy the victory.

It’s ironic that many of the people that you deride as negative are actually middle of the road, sensible moderate posters merely pointing out the absurdity of your extremist views that everything is 100% perfection. You’re creating the focus on the realism or “negativity” as you call it, by virtue of your absurdity. It’s not about positivity or negativity but about trying to find a place of realism, and knowing issues, because without identifying them it’s hard to understand what it would take to resolve them.

Try growing up a little.

Well done Oxford...fantastic way to respond to a rough run of results.
