shambles...

So if the wage budget went up 30% and for that we got the likes of GvK and Tiendalli I would say that goes a long way to explaining why we currently have a caretaker manager..

My mistake, he said in excess of 20%. Although he said that at the end of July, so could have increased further, baring in mind we signed Ricardinho, Pekalski, Mehmeti, Williamson and Mousinho. As well as Payne and GvK on loan, all after he submitted those Q&A answers. I believe we agreed to cover all costs associated with Gino, which probably wasn’t cheap. Let’s not forget the signings of Dickie, Brannagan and IRB.

Strategic Direction

We have a prudent financial strategy which will not risk the financial viability of the club but will allow continued investment in the playing squad.
The playing budget was £1.1m the season before I took over. Since then it has been :
2014/2015 £1.8m

2015/2016 £2.2m

2016/2017 £2.8m

In the coming season, we have budgeted a 15% increase in the playing budget but I suspect the actual increase will be in excess of 20%.

Mellow yellow, bury have a top 6 budget this season, ask their fans how that is going for them?

Shrewsbury have a lower to mid table budget yet are achieving more than even their own fans expected.

Money doesn’t bring you success in this league.

You come across as someone who doesn’t really understand how football works and instead have a personal issue with DE and are just blaming him for the sake of it.

Just out of interest a question for the creator of this thread and his gang who would have been your manager and md and what was your transfer policy regarding players. You are quite happy slating the present regime so lets hear what you would have done

Ha ha. Brilliant. 'We have budgeted an increase of 20 per cent.' Oh. Whoops. We didn't spend our budget. But you can't get me on that because I never guaranteed that we would spend the 'budget.' Smoke and mirrors.
The budget that Appleton saw was a decrease. Or, rather, it was the same but demanded that he included in it items that had previously been excluded. Smoke and mirrors. It's entirely understandable - as in a conjuring show - that most of the audience is fooled most of the time, as they aren't really paying attention. A vague memory that the budget had been increased. And then? On closer inspection, it's not quite what it seems.
We are going to go out and sign players for money. Oh. No. We aren't because the market that has just made me millions is a bit toppy. I might only take home 3 million, not 4 million. So let's sign a player on loan for whom we would have to pay money if we ever did sign him permanently. That'll sound impressive! He's even got a foreign name. That'll get those thickos excited.
And now all the little tricks are catching up with the club. The spin being stripped back to reveal the lack of substance behind.
Is being mid-table in League 1 better than being midtable in League 2. Well Yes, of course. But that should not obscure the reality of the whole club right now. Rudderless, directionless, uncommunicative, un-trategic.
The fact that we had had some amazing times under Robin Herd didn't blind us to the reality of the mess he left behind. A mess it took rather a long time to clear up. History is in danger of repeating itself.....

Here's something from who saw Daryl Eales' business dealings at Learndirect, originally established as a charity to provide training as an alternative to University.

"What happened to LearnDirect was sad. The private equity guys started to rip out the cash. Their first act was to spend £504,000 on F1 sponsorship (the hopelessly inept Marussia Team, partly owned by Darryl Eales - the LDC guy who did the deal)– probably one of the most dishonest acts I’ve ever seen in business. F1 was his hobby – he should have been crucified. What they did was merge with another weak, almost broken, training company (JHP Group) and tried to rebuild, not by building on what they had, but by cutting costs and being rapacious in stripping out cash in dividends."

'History' isn't the only thing in danger of repeating itself.

"The chief executive of LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group, is operating as the chairman of a second investment firm, it has emerged, in a situation that has raised eyebrows among rivals, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

Darryl Eales, the chief executive of UK mid-market buyout firm LDC, is the chairman and a "significant" investor at Alycidon Capital, the sources said. The Birmingham-headquartered firm was formed at the turn of the year with the aim of committing private growth capital to UK industrial businesses. Last week, the firm made an investment in industrial group AIMS Materials for an undisclosed sum, a person familiar with the matter said.

Filings show Alycidon is registered at One Eleven Edmund Street in Birmingham, an address it shares with law firm Gateley, which has advised on several LDC acquisitions - including technology company Metronet - in the past year. Eales' role has raised questions about potential conflicts of interest given that LDC has the ability to commit growth capital and operates a Birmingham office. Rivals have expressed surprise at the situation. One buyout manager said: "At the very least it is unusual behaviour."

I was under the impression that whilst not winning Business Man of the Year, DE was not facing any issues off the back of the Learn Direct affair? So not sure the value in bringing this up again?

As was mentioned before, Nick Merry was our saviour, Kassam wanted to take us on a journey and Sartori promised us Premier League glory. The only ones that have brought us any success in the last 20 years are Lennigan (and Wilder) getting us out the conference and DE (and MApp) getting us promoted to league 1 and 2 Wembley finals.

As for Charlie's prophesy of doom "History will repeat itself" - why not look back 4 years where we had a pretty poor season with MApp but built for the next seasons success. Could Dickie, Brannagan (and hopefully others) gives us the foundations to build a decent side for next season?

So whilst it is easy to have a dig at DE, be careful what we wish for - there are no guarantees of success!!

What about the last 12-18 months?

Oh dear, ok....Novice/inexperienced = pep
Not just experienced, but experienced and having had a degree of success

Is there a wiki of all the "hollow promises" that DE has made?
-feesgate?
-top 6 budget?
-increased season ticket prices to increase budget?

Is there a prize for posting exactly the same thing 100 times?

Tedious.

What about the last 12-18 months?

What about it? We have been (relatively) stable in league 1. We have one trip to Wembley. We have sold Sercombe, Lundstrum and Johnson for decent money despite none of them wanting to be here. We brought in a young and highly respected manager who wanted to bring his own players in - and that has proved to be a failure. DE is now looking to repair that mistake and time will tell if he does. But it could be a damn sight worse before we start shouting about a shambles.

So in your eyes we've progressed as a club on and off the field in the last season and a half, and more importantly in the last 10 months?

You’re getting boring now Charlie.
It would appear things are going on behind the scenes but like always Eales has liked to do his business dealings in private rather than have a running commentary of goings on in the press every week.

The fact you are in the dark like everyone else is something that you seem to hate so you decide to try and create an anti Eales agenda. Something you have been trying to do for the last 3 or so years.

The silence from the club, the lack of communication about the new manager would smack of new investment coming in. If this is the case then surely fans would be pleased as after all everyone has been wanting more investment for the last 6 months or more.

The anti-eales stuff is really getting very tedious. Sure, I agree the silence is worrying and I think some of points of criticism have validity but it is approaching a mob mentality.

I'd liken it to we have a small group of insane preachers, shouting in the street over and over to everyone passing by we should "beware of the devil". They are there every day as you walk to work and it is getting deeply annoying. Except in this case the devil is eales.

Just try to chill out guys.
