International News Covid-19 .....

But what about the 10% that isn’t safe, what is the reason for only 90% rather than 100% we need to know why 10%!isn’t a success.

Iirc the expert on Channel 4, the rate for the flu vaccine is far lower, something like 40%.

The BBC are already hyping it up so much it is ridiculous.
The reason it was trialled on 6 other countries is that their standards are lower than in the UK.
It will still need to pass UK QC.
Then you need two shots so 50 million doses = 25 million folk (worldwide!).
It needs to be transported and stored at -80 .... good luck with that. Most GP`s etc haven`t got a -80 freezer!

It is a chink of light but it`s not a solution yet and won`t be for a long while yet......
Could be a good time to invest in thermofisher, or find out who can make GP-scale -80s.

I think Germany got their -80 supply chain in place a while ago.

Found this. If the claimed effectiveness of the covid vaccine is verified and can be maintained across the program, then 90% is "wow" territory - which might explain some of the ebullience around this announcement...

Getting it here is one thing but it'll be hospitals who deliver the vaccination programme surely if -80 storage is required.

Also it won't be injected at -80 so there must be a defrost and shelf life. My injections have to be taken out of the fridge for an hour before injecting or they hurt like he'll and that's from +3°

Can’t understand.and why estate agents and car garages are open when so many self employed are forced to close.
Chiropractors can work but hairdressers can’t, strange world in which we live

Not sure if there's a typo in your post but road safety and ability to buy a car if yours dies is clearly essential, particularly for key workers and those who can't work from home.

As to your final sentence I think the point is its about mitigation not risk.

The 90% is effectiveness not safety. It is 10% that didn't produce any/significant immune response, not 10% that isn't safe (those figures haven't been published yet but would expect them to be statistically low)

Given that there are dozens of trials, covering tens of thousands of people and only two have been halted because of concerns (one restarted within 72hrs, the other only stopped today), I think the short term safety implications look good.

Whether the vaccine will turn us into flesh eating zombies within a generation is the big worry.....

Nothing to do with it being a strange world when the rules are a government construct.

27,130 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 26,328 (increase 802).
13,119 (increase of 335) were within the Leicester City Council area.
14,011 (increase of 467) cases were reported in the County.

1 death authorised (occurred Nov 5th) total of 500.

Work are moving clinically qualified staff from other areas like research into the frontline again.

Oh dear ! 🤕

It's becoming more and more obvious that a viable vaccine is the only way we are going to break the cycle of outbreak > lockdown > outbreak > lockdown.

Let's hope the good news on that front continues.

So 19,514 2 weeks ago (27/10)
Now 27,130
Thats not good reading.

Not liking the direction things are heading. How's ICU looking? Capacity dwindling by the day? Or are those being admitted now in generally better health than those during the first wave?

The one bright spot is that fewer patients are ending up in ITU.
That is mostly due to earlier intervention and improved management of the associated clinical problems.
It still remains a complex issue though as the patients that do end up in ITU are there for longer.
The patient mix (age, ethnicity, comorbidities) is remarkably similar.

If you are 60+, of Bangladeshi/South Asian heritage and with anything like diabetes (very prevalent in that community) then you need to do your best to avoid it!
