International News Covid-19 .....

There is a legal term - The man on the Clapham Omnibus - which is used by the courts to establish what behaviour should be expected from a member of the public.

The actions of any person or persons are compared against this hypothetical man to determine whether they have acted reasonably when there is no legal standard in force.

After a year of covid restrictions and scientific advice, what would "The man on the Clapham Omnibus" do...

It's obvious that people push the limits and bend the rules, something the government should already know.

If people bend the rules after the first lockdown, it's obvious they will do so again after the second one.

People with your attitude are allowing this government to get away with some shockingly poor decisions. Government are there to govern, not to abdicate ok responsibility when things go wrong.

Edit: Had it been a Labour government making the exact same decisions, you'd have been all over them.
TBH I don’t think it really matter which political party were in government during this pandemic they would also make similar mistakes. So if Labour or the LibDem were in power you can guarantee the Tories a long with ( more than likely ) the LibDems would criticise the Labour Party.
It hasn’t been great the handling of the pandemic it also doesn’t help with idiots attending large gatherings we’ve the spread of the virus could be far greater than if they had abided by the guidelines.
Tragically this virus will be here for years and people will have to change.
My wife and I want to go to to Malta late July for our 60th, we were supposed to be going on a cruise to celebrate but that wasn’t a starter so we had to change our booking which cost me £100. So while people still want to be idiots and go out no masks no vaccination and no social distancing, then I’m afraid there will still be deaths and restrictions could still come and go and with a 3rd wave now hitting some parts of Europe I’m afraid that’s going to hit the U.K. and a possibility of a further lockdown.
So I think recriminations and enquires should take place when things have quietened down.

Seatbelts & drink driving.

Do sensible people use common sense and put a seatbelt on? Yes
Do sensible people use common sense and not drive after a few drinks? Yes

Do stupid people still drink & drive? Yes.
Do stupid people still not wear seatbelts? Yes.

It's truly amazing how many people instantly turned from stupid to sensible the day the seat belt law came in.

About the only thing that changed is that folk thought "I might get caught".... same as any other illegal act.
Since then the fines have increased and there is talk of points on the licence for not wearing them............. because stupid people still don`t!

See above.

It`s against the law to speed, it`s against the law to use a mobile in your hand, it`s against the law to drive dangerously....... yet every day stupid people do and get caught.

Sensible people stick to the speed limit, don`t use a phone .......... because that is "common sense".

You're wrong and you know it which is why you keep side stepping the point.

Right. We're nearly there. One more push...

When common sense fails (which is evidently frequently) laws can demonstrably be used to affect positive changes in behaviour.

If the best defence of a government is that the other parties would of been just as bad had they been in power then that government must of messed up badly, as that argument is the weakest possible.

Least you have stopped on about Corbyn though.

Interesting that you describe it as 'a ricket', compared to 'being flexible and adaptable' when Johnson does the same...

She caved in to regional pressure at about 1am....... elections due I do believe....and they are in their third wave.
Different situation, different people, different game.
