The words quoted in the clubs latest Facebook post to advertise the Charlton and Exeter home games.

They could and should have made this a deal, both games for £38 to entice people to come to both. Not nothing!

Don't be silly. Apparently as promotion is now off the table, it doesn't matter. Anyway, the ticketing system would collapse under the strain.

They’re doing a discounted ticket offer for ST holders to bring friends or family members, but for some reason they don’t seem to have bothered advertising it. The email went out a couple of weeks back:

The U's have two exciting home fixtures over the festive period and as a Season Ticket holder, you have the opportunity to bring your friends and family to the games at a discounted ticket rate.

Charlton Athletic travel to OX4 on Thursday 29th December, 7:45pm, followed shortly after by Exeter City on Sunday 1st January 2023, 3pm, and you can buy tickets for just:

  • £15 for Adults
  • £10 for Concessions

This is a great opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy some festive football with your loved ones this winter.

You can buy additional tickets by:

  • Clicking the 'Buy More Tickets' button below
  • Calling the Ticket Office: 01865 337533
  • Visiting the Ticket Office in person
Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you with lots of familiar and new faces at both games.”

Still plenty of tickets available for the Charlton match and similar for the Exeter match a few days later on New Year’s Day
Both Xmas attendances last season were 7915 v Wimbledon (29/12) and 8351 v Cheltenham (01/22) so the myth of better attendances over the Christmas period have dwindled somewhat although you would expect Charlton and Exeter to bring more supporters than both the Dons and the Robins.
A mixture of a few reasons the two home supporter attendances will be considerably lower for these games however the main impact are our style of play, the poor results we are getting on the pitch and our precarious league position which has us looking over our shoulders rather than looking ahead.

That’s not in the initial Facebook post, which would maybe get more attention!

optimistically ( with ST holders included -whether actually there in person or not) think/ kinda hope that both matches with have official attendances for both Charlton & Exeter home games ,in the region of 8.5K - as both are during the xmas 'break' ( granted not for all) & other is the first bank holiday of the year ( assuming? - there's no strikes taking place that may affect people travelling to Oxford)

Ive kinda lost track atm- is there any industrial action being taken by any of the railway trade unions either tomorrow or on Sunday? - if there is , that will be something of a factor in the attendance

I think we will. There’s always good number of ‘walk ups’ on the day around Xmas New Year. It’s quite a traditional thing for some people.

They will be far from sell outs though and I agree about the lack of promotion to get bums on seats.

I always try to do the Christmas home game and new years one.

50/50 on tomorrow. Think I’ll decide late afternoon. Normally I’d of got tickets etc.
