National News Official 2019 General Election Thread

Parliament forced his hand, he broke the stalemate.
He now goes into an election with a goodly chunk of 17.4 million behind him as well as the normal Tory vote................ can`t see much more than a landslide whilst others clutch at straws and "tweet about bad words".

Simple question... who would you rather was running the country? Someone who goes into negotiations & talks wanting to win or a middle of the road nobody?
A party who actually care about the least well off majority, not the just the mega rich elite 1%, as well as one that doesnt lie then subsequently deny they have lied or have to constantly apologise, publically , after voicing offensive gaffes would do for starters ;)

On this day 73 years ago, Nye Bevan’s National Health Service Bill became law. The Tories voted against it 22 times.
This would be the first historic step to setting up a truly universal healthcare system, and Labour’s proudest achievement – the NHS. ....... something worth remembering, considering and protecting for future generations on December 12th?

The right-wing national press was opposed to the idea of a National Health Service. The Daily Sketch reported: "The State medical service is part of the Socialist plot to convert Great Britain into a National Socialist economy. The doctors' stand is the first effective revolt of the professional classes against Socialist tyranny. There is nothing that Bevan or any other Socialist can do about it in the shape of Hitlerian coercion."

Winston Churchill led the attack on Bevan. In one debate in the House of Commons he argued that unless Bevan "changes his policy and methods and moves without the slightest delay, he will be as great a curse to his country in time of peace as he was a squalid nuisance in time of war." The Conservative Party voted against the measure. The Tory ammendment stated that it "declines to give a Third Reading to a Bill which discourages voluntary effort and association; mutilates the structure of local government; dangerously increases minisaterial power and patronage; approppriates trust funds and benefactions in contempt of the wishes of donors and subscribers; and undermines the freedom and independence of the medical profession to the detriment of the nation." However, on 2th July, 1946, the Third Reading was carried by 261 votes to 113. Michael Foot commented that the Conservatives had voted against the "most exciting and popular of the Government's measures a bare four months before it was to be introduced"

Which particular Billionaires do this (some or all?) and if you remove then (how are you going to do that), how are you going to replace the 27-30% worth of tax that the 1% pay? What happens if they close down companies that they run or reduce investment? I assume you are not a fan of Erick Thohir and Anindya Bakrie being associated with OUFC?

It's all very well blaming "Billionaires" and "the Elite" for the ills of this country, but I can't be the only one that suspects if they leave, it'll be everyone else left to pick up the slack. The poor will just have to work more for less, likely worsening the conditons that are so bad now.

Jeff Bezos is worth $110bn - that’s billion - after his divorce. All this while some amazon workers are denied breaks even to go to the toilet, and Amazon themselves do not pay a lot of tax.

Couldn’t he be worth, say 10 billion - that’s billion - dollars, and the other hundred billion go to ensuring the workers and/or countries Amazon trade in are a little better off?

The same arguments were made during the Middle Ages when at one point it was made illegal for workers to move elsewhere for more money, even during labour shortages. Got to keep those landowners rich and those wages down!

I see Tom Watson the Labour Deputy Leader is standing down at the election as an MP. He’s been accused of persecuting public figures and has been at the centre of a campaign to be removed as deputy leader. Corbyn claims they will work together.
i would wager Corbyn is happy that another moderate has gone.
With the Tory lead down to 11% the possibility of a Labour Government is looming.
Question is whether Boris and Nigel will work together or divide and rule.
The Conservatives cant afford any more challenges like they’ve had the last couple of days if they want to deliver brexit.
Corbyns idea of delivering brexit look doomed to failure, he’s promising that he will deliver it in six months. That’s against a backdrop of Starmer and his followers seeking a second referendum.
Will there ever be an end to the brexit saga?

If Boris drops his pride and commits to an election pact with Farage the election is won.

If he fails to do this he will lose the election.

I'd rather we were owned by the fans like Barcelona, or Bayern Munich - German football has a minumum 50 percent fan ownership rule.

Billionaire don't pay tax. They've left already.

I'm sue the people whose work made Thohir so wealthy aren't that pleased in his investing in a football club so far away, possibly in a property speculation.

A couple of days ago, I was watching a Tory MP and a tenant of a cockroach-infested flat. The lady tenant was complaining to the interviewer about the state of her home. The arrogant Tory was sticking up for the scum landlord. He told the woman that she knew what the place was like, when she moved in. And that sums up the Tories for me. Working class people don't matter at all.

Jeff Bezos is not a UK billionaire.

Ian Austin (former Labour minister) says vote for Boris.

Labour could be bankrupted over antisemitism claims.......

Labour bans its candidates from standing......

And lets not mention Keith Vaz..... still not de-selected or punished......

This could run & run they all P**s in the same pot and are "targets" for the public.

Good luck with the ownership - time has passed.

Can you prove Billionaires don't pay tax - I'd assume your lumping together personal and company taxes, inc NI, etc? It's a rather large aspersion to cast out there

And how do you know about Thohir's people being unhappy?

Just watched the Ian Austin interview on BBC Breakfast. To say he went all in on Corbyn is an under statement. I can tell he's being called Tory Scum on Social Media already.

I did see something about how Labour were struggling financially in the past 12 months and in some areas, membership was down.

I'm not sad to see Tom Watson standing down. Ruined some lives over VIP sex ring and just moved on it, was not nice in Leveson. The Tories were targetting his seat, so a shame they didn't get the chance to Portillo him.

Oh dear.....

I have no real view on this article from 2015- other than to ask where have the opposition been for the last four years.
We have had a minority government for over 2 years.
At no time during that period, as far as I an aware, has any opposition member tried to resurrect this initiative .

Indeed, what have' the Romans' ever done for us ? ;)

I think playing political tennis with Brexit issues, a GE then subsequently the minority government changing party leader/ PM , may have taken up most of the past few years in HoC ... then, on 23 Oct 2019, just a couple of weeks ago, Lib Dems abstained on the Labour proposal to not 'sell off' NHS to US Pharmaceutical companies, .....

If my experiences with this poster are correct, his response to this will be:

A. Non existent; or
B. Unrelated to the questions you've asked.

There is of course a third option whereby he simply accuses me of being racist. A very entertaining poster.
