Conference Anybody getting faintly nostalgic for the National League

Watching us lose on Setanta to teams is never heard of wasn’t particularly enjoyable.

'Angry from Wantage' was about to start typing.

It's a hard no from me.

I enjoy having become the kind of w****r who has to check which division MK Dons are in nowadays given our recent cup draw.

As an OUFC fan absolutely not. Even a bit. As a general footy nerd and nostalgist the odd visit to court place farm or non league grounds on holiday scratches the grassroots itch just fine.

The YouTube algorithm threw this up for me the other day. No, I do not want to watch that again.

When we were in Leagues 1 and 2, drawing a Conference or lower side in the FA Cup first or second rounds was always fun. Having to do that every week became a chore in the Conference. The second season in particular (2007-08) was particularly drab as we went nowhere.

Never again, thanks.

The Conference was mostly awful. Arriving at estuary towns like Grays where you would hardly know there was a game on. Like a football deployment nobody asked for.

If I'm watching the league 2 highlights, in my head I hear the circus music, league one is just about watchable, but the Championship is where it's at, thank you very much.

I hope supporters are in agreement on that, because we are going to need to be all in over the next few months.

What I’m confused about is how a thread that had zero replies three years ago is getting multiple replies now…

How does anyone even see the thread? It would be about a hundred pages down the “unread posts” tab. Weird.

Not confused about my answer to the question. No - it was horrible. Literally the only good thing that happened (apart from the denouement at Wembley) was that beautiful Andy Burgess goal vs Halifax.

Hmmm...... Southampton at home on Boxing Day.

It's a tough question

I'll sleep on it.

I think it’s easy to look back and think ‘wasn’t that fun’ since there was a novelty to rocking up at some tinpot grounds (I’m looking at you Tamworth) - but it was bleak in reality. When people ask who you support and you have to explain which division we are in.
Was there some fun times and good memories- yes, do I ever want to do it again- nope!

I think I'll make myself watch this every time I feel like moaning about GW.

In theory it might have been fun to be the big fish and win most of our home games, but in fact it was often quite dreary as we seemed to sink to their level pretty fast. I remember the odd good game against the likes of Crawley, Dagenham, and Stevenage.
