What a day! What a game! What a result!

WHAT A GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just when you think the day can't get any better we get a slice of cake with Slumdon losing!

Just when you think the day can't get any better we get the icing on the cake with MK Dungs losing!

Just when you think the day can't get any better we get the cherry on the icing with Bristol Pity losing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That went so well for us that Des surely runs wit that system for the short term... Wonder how much that performance changes certains plans.

Still a lot of passing backwards, but Im beginning to see a bit of a reason!

Weirdly I’m feeling quietly confident.

Despite the disappointing result against Derby, anyone who attended could see the spirit and effort was there, injuries and old legs have caught up with us.

With the physio’s room overflowing, it will be interesting to see what Des can conjure up from the walking wounded. Three at the back looks the most likely with Stevens and Bennet as the wingbacks. McGuane and Rodrigues both look like they need a rest and/or are playing with knocks. I can’t see them both being rested but perhaps McEachran will start instead of McGuane.

With Murphy and Mills looking doubtful, we look very one paced, that’s my main concern.

However, unexpected performances and victories can often come from no where. There appears to be far more unrest within the Charlton fanbase than Oxford’s. If we can frustrate and turn the home fans against their team we have a chance.

1-2. Brannigan, Rodrigues.

Have faith my fellow yellows!😉

Credit to Buckingham today for the setup in limited circumstances. We dominated Charlton and subsequently rarely looked to be in trouble. Only worry today was that until Oisin’s strike, I feared that we may just come away with a point, despite the one-sided nature of the game, and what an injustice that would have been.

Charlton were poorer than I had expected (particularly at the back), and probably the worst Appleton side I’ve seen. Always felt he did a great job with us, but on that showing a P45 awaits! With the exception of Dobson you wouldn’t have swapped any of their players for ours (Dobson being the best player on the pitch).

Thought Bennett did a good job, but not really a wing-back, and feel that’s a last resort option. Elsewhere, well done Harris for a great run and goal. Reward for all his effort in recent games. Rodriguez’ balls to Steven’s to run onto, including the goal, deserve a mention (but please stop the petulance), as does Moore’s composure at the back and Brown alongside.

A good result, some nice football, and if we can move the ball a little quicker, with some new editions, the play-offs might just be possible.

Forgot to give a shout out to the ref. He’s brand new from the MLS in America. By far the best we’ve had this season. Fair to both teams. Was excellent at playing advantages and rightly booked our players and theirs. That’s how a game should be reffed.

Yeeesssssssz!! COYY! Great setup today. Smart tactics and take a bow Oisin Smyth.

Difference today was we had willing runners down the channels which gave Cam and Mcguane much more room in midfield. The backline passed sideways and backwards to shift Charlton around and then when the opportunity arose they passed forwards into the midfield or went long down the channels. Very impressive and that second half was very much one way traffic.

I can remember staring at that terrace in wonder when we drew 3-3 there towards the end of the 84/5 season, it was huge. Think that game was one of the last they played there before the ground was shut down originally.

I think at that time their overall capacity was 108k
I think Charlton’s ground used to have the largest capacity in the league if my memory serves me right? Port Vale I think might have been up there at one point too, but could be wrong on this.

Probably won’t be too long until he’s reffing in the PL, similar happened with Jarred Gillett when he moved from the A League and worked his way up pretty quickly from EFL to PL.

As well as the setup, the Bodin for McEachran substitution was perfect.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half were pretty dour and even - they were getting super-tight to Cam all game (who was getting frustrated) and McEachran was getting plenty of space, but not doing a great amount with it.

But once Bodin came on, his movement is just that little bit cleverer that he was able to find pockets of space despite the close attention (not a slight on Cam - Bodin's movement is cleverer than almost anyone in the division). Meanwhile with Cam sitting deeper, they were no longer able to get super-tight to him, and he just ran the show (I could watch him fire those Hollywood passes out to Stevens all day long).

We utterly dominated from that point on, and the three points were more than deserved.

Smyth was truly excellent - my only concern is that his defending wasn't that secure when Charlton's left wing ran at him. He backed off too much and invited him into the area over and over again....at which point he couldn't tackle him any more for fear of giving away a pen.

Suspect his best position would be holding midfielder - which is unfortunately the one position where we're already stacked! But certainly deserves some more playing time somewhere after that performance and that goal.
