Watched via iFollow so couldn't gauge the whole game but, what a result. Charlton were not the opposition expected as they lacked some key players but, the boys came together in a fairly coherent manner and got the job done. Smyth was good and took his chance really well. Harris scored!!
Still a lot of work for Des and the backroom staff and some personnel in over the coming weeks required.
A real raise in spirits after Friday.

Looking at the table, we’re now 5th.

Above us is Pompey, Bolton, Peterborough and Derby. We’ve had a look at three of those four and know how good they are - I would say that the three we have played are better.

So, we know what we need to do in January and how to make ourselves better than them. Get those reinforcements in, get Leigh and co back and push on in 2024.

@greatunclekip - couldn't beat a team with more injuries than the opening senses of Saving Private Ryan!

@Leysboy - the local lad did pretty good!

Unfortunately it looks like old Salmon Pants has left the forum, but just in case he has a quick read - hahahahahahaha!!! Killing off his second football club and never getting out of the league! Keep it up Charlie!!!

That’s a great win and I thought a really dominant performance, especially second half. I think we‘d have taken 6 points from 9 from the post Xmas games, maybe even 5 so 6 is a very good return. Pleased for Des, it was all there today - good, brisk football and bags of endeavour and commitment. Well done and keeps us right in the mix.

✊🏻😏
That was a very ballsy performance. Despite Charlton undoubtedly being useless.

Well done Des, well done lads.

Don’t get the negativity. There was something noble in the way we took our Derby beating.

Charlton are on a worse trot than us. Plus we have a great record against them at the Valley.

3-4-1-2 Smyth to start in midfield, MCG needs a rest. Bran further up the pitch. Rodrigues and the goal machine up front.

2-1 win. Harris to score.

Christmas / New Year: could have ended up with 4 draws and 4 points. We got 6 with a threadbare squad.

Smyth's goal: shades of Matty's beauty in 1996 that kick started the promotion push.

Buckingham: please give the man one transfer at least before bashing him.
To be honest, Des has got what was fair.
Today he was a lot better.

A much better performance all round.

I've been calling out for Smyth to be given a chance for weeks now, and been shot down on here every time, but I'm so glad Des was brave enough to go with Smyth today, he looked absolutely class, composed, read the game well, with excellent positional awareness, and his range of passing is superb, and he always looks to be progressive with his passing, a revelation, and has to keep his place in the side after that MOTM performance. Well done Oisin 👏

Stevens had a much better game, with some excellent balls into the box, looks a lot more comfortable as a wing back, although still liable to a mistake here and there, and could've provided more support to Smyth at times, although thankfully Smyth coped well regardless!

McGuane had his best game for a while, and looked a lot more like his early season self, playing with more energy and desire, good to see.

Bennett is a player we simply must sign in January, a very good player, who looks very composed on the left. Quality.

Good to see Brannagan roaming around full of energy and aggression, and driving the team forward, he's back to his old self these days, which is great to see.

A well deserved win, full of energy and desire, and hopefully the first sign that Des is starting to get to grips with the squad, as they certainly put a shift in for him today.

A great way to start the new year, and hopefully with a few additions in January, it'll be onwards and upwards for here...

Well done Des and the lads! 👏👏

That terrace would have been awesome when full.

Let’s get some consistency going, let’s win 3 or 4 on the bounce, and bring in some impressive signings, then he may convince me. Winning away at a poor Charlton team, doesn’t do it for me. You obviously think he’s the best thing since sliced bread, but as I said it’s one win, and I won’t get carried away.

For those there - how was Beadle after the game? Did he look like someone playing his last game for us?
