Again I can't believe we have nobody new in for the weekend on what was already a thin squad completely depleted.

It actually feels like we have given up on the season 4 games in. There's just nothing. No enthusiasm. No passion from the players. Just rubbish.
Exactly this.

We arent playing a radically different or unusual formation so I don’t really understand why most of the players are playing so badly. Agree that the midfield isn’t working though.

This is why

: No Mcnally bringing the ball out and opening up play
: Seddon at left back where Brown is a better defender
: No Sykes or pace on the wing
: No Gavin Whyte again pace on the wing
: No Herbie Kane in midfield

Instead we have

:Findlay who likes to play sideways and backwards
: Seddon getting caught out of position all the time
: Henry on the wing who is to slow
: Browne or Bodin on the wing who aren't as quick as Gavin Whyte.
: Lewis Bate or Bodin/Henry in midfield who don't have the engine, strength or the vision of Kane.

The only positive is Mcguane who is far superior to Gorrin/ kane playing in a deep role.

I do!

If the players aren't performing to the standard that [we know] they can then we can absolutely bloody blame them! There's plenty of blame to lay at Karl's door, but most of the starting XI have been here for some time and understand EXACTLY what's required of them!
Part of the problem is this:

Despite the 8 new signings, only Findlay has started regularly in the league, Bate one game which was a disaster and Murphy one game where he was average for the hour or so he was on the pitch, as clearly didn’t want to aggravate his hamstring (tho in the end he did!)

So we’re basically left with last seasons players as the starting line up (with Findlay replacing McNally). However last season we had Whyte, Kane, Sykes and Williams who were all regular starters, particularly the first 3 mentioned. So the starting line up now actually features several players who couldn’t get in the starting 11 last season. So not only have we not strengthened where it was obvious we needed to, we’ve gone backwards (aside from the excellent so far MM).

And a keeper who should have been released 2 years ago. And a striker whose goals per chance is not the best.

Sounds like you were a Kane fan. I agree that the current lineup has many flaws but still think they should be making a better fist of it.

Yeah but in all the new arrivals' press releases (which definitely aren't written by the club) they all say how the deciding factor was KR and the exciting project he's building here.

You're not telling me that's all just media guff, are you?

Am I?

Not necessarily a Kane fan. But from what I've seen of Lewis Bate so far he looks a real downgrade and too lightweight for league one. We should of went and got Camara from Plymoyth to play along side Brannagan!

Absolutely agree with you there. Bate just looks too small and from what I recall Camara is a beast and also skilful.

Abit like we should have got Stockton to play with Taylor we should have got fossey to replace long and Guinness-walker to replace Seddon problem with Karl knows best and were left with s**t

Well I won't argue that we haven’t gone backwards.

The starting XI have underperformed so far though and I won't excuse that.

Give the kid a chance FFS. One bad game and he's a downgrade; Kane had plenty of bad games and still left here a popular figure, in the main. Ridiculous to be writing him off but then again, I'm not even the slightest bit surprised.

Bate is a quality player, there's no doubt about his pedigree. He's not the ball winning destroyer we desperately needed (despite the suggestion from one of the positive bus that he was 🤦‍♂️), and so he's not going to look that effective in games where we struggle to get a foothold. But in a balanced squad, he should look the part.

We just need a balanced squad now. Shouldn't take long...

Think we should give Lewis Bates a chance . New players , new surroundings and new formations. We’re back to that players take time to gel and fit in

That's why you sign players early so they have time to gel and fit in. We should of had a full squad by the derby game and any additions now should of been luxury players like Murphy.

I think we just need to take the Liam Kelly approach of focusing on what he doesn’t do, and what we don’t see, and then we’ll realise what a player we have.
Wiki says he's 5 ft 8, whereas Kelly was 5 ft 4 - but he looked smaller than that to me. Might be OK when slotting into a team that's working a bit better

Probably worth giving Bate time. KR loves a techy midfielder - Bate is that. He presses well and bring energy to the midfield, from the games I’ve watched he’s also progressive on the ball. A big physical presence he is not, but he can put himself about. Ultimately, as Leeds said, this is a development loan - I think writing him off now is premature.

That said, we need something more in midfield. Would allow us to get the best out of McGuane and Brannagan. As predicted, Gorrin, at best, will be a squad player this season. Good, destroyer types are tough to find and in high demand.
