International News Black Lives Matter

If someone says "Black Lives Matter" do you take it as a statement of fact, yes obviously they do!
Or as a pseudo-political slogan based on the global movement?

Therein is the difficulty the two have insufficient differential.

Racism is wrong would be better.
Kick it Out is a great football analogy.
Rock Against Racism was another... April `78 showing my age.... Clash, X Ray Spex, Steel Pulse and enough illicit gear to sink a small country.... :ROFLMAO:
A good band were Steele Pulse

Decent documentary about RAR on Sky documentaries, well worth a watch if you've not seen it...

Is a statue a "celebration" ? Rhodes et al actually did a lot of good for many people at the time so is it not just an acknowledgement?
Seriously??

Of course it is...unless you take steps to contextualise it. It goes some way to explain why there are no statues of Mussolini in Italy despite his great efforts on railway punctuality and malaria 🤣

EDIT: This is a good piece on how a small Italian town has dealt with a monument that contains an image of Mussolini: https://www.theguardian.com/comment...o-italian-town-defuse-controversial-monuments

As an aside, this is an interesting take on France' relationship with Napoleon: https://www.newsweek.com/2014/05/16/why-napoleons-still-problem-france-250223.html#:~:text=On the streets of Paris, column in the Place Vendôme.

Only two statues in the whole of Paris and one minor road named after him, mostly down to his Nephew, because he brought so much shame to France despite some of the "good" things he did.

I'm also reminded of the joke about Billy to goat F###er:

An old man shuffles into a bar at sundown with his eyes low and his head down the bartender says "ay, billy! whats the matter. you seem troubled" billy responds with "you see this bar we're standing in. I built it with me own hands! but they don't call me the bar builder, no!

and the bridge everyone uses to cross the river to get to the market, I built that that with me own hands too! but do the call me the bridge builder? no, they do not.

and the wall that protects our city, I built that with me own hands too! and they don't call me the wall builder neither.

BUT YOU F##K ONE GOAT!...

Lyle Taylor says that there is a difference between the message they want to get across (that black lives matter) and the organisation BLM. Funny, but that's exactly what 95% of people have been saying on this thread for months!!!
Hmmmmmmmmm!!🤥🤥🤥🤥

Shows how much things have improved, changed & evolved since the NF & RAR days.

Something tells me that quotes like this are not the way to quell violent protests from a predominantly white male crowd.

Also, Joe would probably do quite well if he actually maintained his "sleepy Joe" persona. Peddling the social justice narrative isn't going to do him any favours and feeds into the next Republican challenger who can literally wheel out the same old "make America American again" slogan and win a ton of votes.

No worries - they're all subject to no-fly bans anyway, since giving their details away on Parler.

I dare say that nothing Biden or the Dems could say would ever quell their wish to be violent...because like their great Demagogic leader they are exceptionally bad and very paranoid losers....with guns....and a sense of supremacy.

Well I doubt it is confined to those who were at the capital, given the FBI are concerned about widespread armed disturbances across the country.

And yep they are extremists, but ideally Biden would have one eye on not creating more extremists by basically saying "we're helping all businesses except for those owned by those run by white men".

Lucky that he didn’t then - you should be pleased. He said that he would ensure that all those others would get equal help to white men. This is becoming like the black-lives-matter/all-lives-matter debate: tedious. It’s really not that hard.

Are you sure you are not misinterpreting the message here?

It quite clearly says equal access. I'm not sure how anyone can read that as saying we are giving unequal access....unless that is the way you want to interpret it of course. The suggestion is that access to these resources is very much unequal at the moment and this is leveling things up.

It would appear the MAGA's were the snowflakes all along! - who knew!?!

"I would request anyone looks into Black Lives Matter to look into what that organisation does and what they stand for because it's scandalous that the world and the world's media has got behind Black Lives Matter."

No not me saying it........ Lyle Taylor from Notts Forest.

"You see what is happening - I'm not going into my beliefs into what went on in the Capitol building (referencing the attack on America's congress) this week because I've done my fair amount of research into it."

Bit of a weird comment, no? What's he suggesting there?

@bashamwonderland -on your point about violent widespread armed disturbances across the country. It is disturbing in the extreme that any President should be expected to "soften" any message (even one that has been purposefully misinterpreted) on giving equal access, just to appease a rabid mob.

The country has a real problem with allowing aload of paranoid supremicists, whipped up by their own President, access to military grade hardware in the first place. It has then elected a President who has spent 4 years massaging their egos and has done absolutely nothing to calm tensions or ease fears. Quite the opposite - he has purposefully whipped them up into a frenzy, stoked those fears and spread plenty of conspiracy theories of his own. He has made them feel like victims, made them feel like their god-given and constitutional rights are under threat and THAT is why America is where it is, not because Joe Biden has suddenly said - everyone is entitled to the same access to resources to rebuild their lives and businesses.

Just wow!

The comment about equal access came directly after an indication of preferential treatment was made. See "our priority will be" at the header of the quote.

I don't need the speech about Trump by the way. I don't support him, his party, his policies or any of his comments. Nor do I support the Democrats their reps policies and so on. I'm pretty impartial when it comes to the US.

You are normally quite reasonable but I feel in this instance you might be turning my argument into something which it isn't. You're saying "and THAT is why America is where it is, not because Joe Biden has suddenly said - everyone is entitled to the same access to resources to rebuild their lives and businesses."

fair enough. I don't disagree with you. I'm not saying Joe Biden is the cause of the deep divisions in America. What I'm saying is that for many of us he is the only hope we have for de-escalation. And I don't think his message in this case will lead to de-escalation.

that's what we want from all this.

Don’t you think this is a tough call, though? You’ve had an absolute nightmare of a president (I’m into the 4th hour of The Trump Show on TV right now). And suddenly it’s the democrats job to appease everyone? Why not have the republicans take care of that and let the democrats do what they said they would in their election campaign?

Yeah I think it is the Dems job to appease everyone. Just because the system has failed for the previous four years it doesn't mean it should continue to fail for another 4 - it's getting more and more dangerous.

Steering away from divisive language will only win JB more votes. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was led to believe it was his quiet and conciliatory attitude which won him this election in the first place. I'd love to see some more of that.
