Meanwhile in Oxford city centre the university students were mobbing in town yesterday ... groups of no more than 6, masks, and social distancing doesnt apply to them it seems ...there is a report in OM ...but i cant get the damn thing to work

They called them universities because they were embarrassed at gaining a qualification from a polytechnic

I didn't give a damn what it was called, it helped me to get the qualifications I needed. Also, Brookes was good as it had a lot of international students which meant you got to meet lots of people from different backgrounds/countries. Brookes also has for many years had good ratings in plenty of courses not that I've looked in the last few years mind.

No I’m not Knocking anyone who went to the Poly im just saying that’s all it is really. But there are loads up and down the country I went to Bournemouth college for a while but now it’s Bournemouth university

There really isn't a difference now other than snobbery value and in some cases higher quality or research opportunities (top end Russell Group/Oxbridge). Brookes and other "new" Universities do the same type of courses etc.
