Ref Watch +++ 13/07/20 L1 Play Off FINAL - OUFC v Wycombe+++

You could hear the Wycombe players in the stands shouting and cheering, encouraging the team. They did this against Fleetwood too.

As said above, I think Moore was done by Onyedinma, who shouted "keepers" or something. Clever thinking. When you want something you would do whatever it takes. We seemed to think it was a given that we would win and go up, so didn't fight.
Agree. Could only hear the wycombe benchers in the background all game shouting for every decision. Probably influenced the ref/lino

Sleeping hasn't made anything better. As a fan since 2009, this is the first time I have experienced proper disappointment as an Oxford fan. I imagine similar feelings to when we got relegated in 2006.
Totally pales into Insignificance compared to that. That could have meant no more OUFC, this won’t.

Just looked at the wycombe forum to rub salt in the wounds. They have 9 yes 9 pages on their matchday thread. Says it all. One poster thinks they can now pick up our players. Joker. They can have Eastwoid.

A lot of talk on here about KR walking, is everyone forgetting it was his team out there last night?

If that was the case, I think Eastwood or Moore would have come out and said this by now if only to explain their failure to communicate.

When will we get this chance again? Looking at the teams that are already in L1 and the three potential from L1 it ls going to be very tough and if bloody bias sky are correct we had the 13th biggest budget, what will this seasons be 15th 16th or maybe 17th.

Could they afford any of our players, they have no back room staff and no money and hopefully the negative football team go into administration

Yes, or maybe 18th or 19th. Dry your eyes!

Well sleeping on it hasn't made me forget. What a missed opportunity. On another day we would of buried them chances and not made them mistakes. Now the board need to give KR what he needs to build around the best of this team. Are main problem all season has been not enough back up players. Aslong as the team doesn't get stripped all together we could challenge again next season. Now would be a good time for the board to come out and say about the stadium (it is the end of the season now after all).
The board needs to be sensible here otherwise there won't be an OUFC. The players and KR blew a massive chance to get a Championship TV income. And in a season where there is likely to be no people in football stadia and covid19 testing costs football will be very expensive for the owners. Yesterday was our chance of promotion. Now the owners have to plan for our financial survival. That is why I am so upset still, we need a cheaper budget next season and possibly a playing style to suit all because of an own goal and a defensive cockup and big name players believing they are championship quality but didn't produce more than 20 mins of quality in three playoff games.

Im a little bit gutted for you guys. As fancied a trip up the A34. But the team that played last night wasn't the high energy skilful team that played us.

1st half you dint really seam like you could be arsed. Wycombe got a bit lucky on the 1st. 2nd goal your keeper had a mad moment. As shown by your players reaction to what happened.

Wycombe only have 1 style of play. But for some reason it works. But you dint seam to counter this with a high line. As once akinfenwa was on all they do is play it to him for the knock on. Not sure this is going to work in the Championship mind you.

Hopefully you guys come from this stronger and push on next year. If you play like you did vs us you should walk the league.

Anyway good luck next season and hopefully you slap Swindon down a few pegs.

Bazzer , Wycombe don't have any debt now and with the expected £5m in central payments from the EFL are unlikely to enter Administration.

We lost and it hurts but lets try and be sensible.

I left my phone upstairs after the game last night. WhatsApps went upread and I simply got on with the washing up and watching an old episode of QI. I needed a break from it but feel I can dissect it now that it’s all over.

If another dissection in a 20-page thread is needed – losing is part and parcel of football. You can accept it when you’re beaten by a superior side or you’ve made your task harder by having a player sent off early. When both goals were self inflicted and we were on top with chances in the second half is what makes it so much harder to stomach. If Sykes hadn’t scored and we’d lost 2-0 with those goals, I’d be disappointed and probably frustrated we didn’t create enough. As it is, I’m ruing the Henry chance most at 1-1.

Wycombe’s set up was excellent. Not just on the pitch but the crowing from the sidelines. They managed to generate a slice of atmosphere in an otherwise empty 90k stadium and you can’t knock that. It certainly helped them, I feel. It makes you wonder whether we underestimated the impact that the ‘12th man’ could have. Those who are allowed in are entitled to make some noise and I didn’t hear much of a peep from the Oxford side.

Did we really deserve promotion based on our performances over the playoffs? We showed inklings of what we’re capable of but we’re slow starters and need that rhythm over a few games to get into stride. It was always going to be a tall order to get going again but that was the same for all sides. Wycombe just did it better.

One final point to note that prior to lockdown, Wycombe hasn’t been out of the top four all season, only dropping out because they were due to play Bury. That’s 34 weeks in the automatics and playoff places. We spent 13 weeks in the playoff places with one week in second. ‘Deserved’ is a funny word in football. On balance, Wycombe deserved to be there.

For all his headlines this morning, Akinfenwa did nothing as per usual against us. He was a burden to them so why he’s sitting there Facetiming Klopp and crowing about a promotion he barely did anything towards is a mystery. Get the mic in front of Stewart, Grimmer, Jacobson and Charles – they were Wycombe’s real heroes and not the bloated physique and ego that is Akinfenwa.

Indeed surely we are in a worse state now financially. Wycombe cut their cloth and played a style of football they could afford. They get a massive bump in TV revenue too now in a season where fans will have less money in their pockets and probably won't be allowed in the stadium for much of the season.

Don’t be a silly bollox.!we won’t get this chance again for a few years probably not in my lifetime, unless who knows Kassam May pop his cliffs or someone with deep pockets my buy the OGB out where we then start to have budgets to compete

Didn't think I could find anything funny this morning. Then, after several years, the single cell amoebae suddenly find a way to climb out of their gene puddle down the A420. How long have they been waiting for something like last night?

Anyway, social distancing won't be a problem when we play them. They don't come within 200 meters of us let alone two.
