I know that there was talk of GP's coming out of retirement to help the crisis, but Matt Holland will be 46 in April and retired 10 years ago!! Might be worth bringing him in on a pay as you play deal and subbing him on with Mackie in the 93rd minute!!!

?? Good one ! What a dipstick I am should of proof read I'll put down to what's going on lack of oxygen ???????. Its Nathan not Matt

It's been less than 24 hours since the EFL said it would continue - per government advice - what's changed?

Players and staff testing positive in larger numbers has probably been the change. For example, Peterborough have had a player test positive so they'll have to self isolate as Pompey have had to after playing Arsenal with their manager testing positive.

Your comment is entirely incorrect as explained by the experts flanking Boris Johnson yesterday. Please can everyone watch this video.
What you suggest will cause the red curve below. Childcare will be forced into the hands of grandparents who are the population at risk of suffering the bad symptoms as a result of this. There will be no healthcare without childcare.

Other medical experts disagree with those medical experts.

Italy are now shutting lots of places likes shops etc apart from food shops and Pharmacies, why hasn't the herd immunity developed for them as they didn't self isolate early on? The Mayor of Bergamo was incredulous on Newsnight that the UK hadn't taken any measures as he said Italy has been too late thoughout in acting making things worse.

The UK is an outlier in general to most of the other countries' approach to Coronavirus.

Of course not all medical experts agree but those present in that video have been picked amongst others to have a serious cobra meeting debate and reasoned discussion to chose what is best for the country not just what is the easy option because it's what everyone else is doing as they are already weeks further along than us.

Implementing what others have already learnt from the Chinese actions early on and done relatively successfully is the easy option? Maybe it is the right option considering what they have managed to do after learning the harsh lessons early on. Even the US are going into lockdown.

Apparently you can’t be tested until you’ve self isolated for 7 days even those with underlying health issues. It’s ridiculous.
To be honest it doesnt really matter if your tested or not. There will be thousands who have this virus who havent been tested. There is no cure for this. If you have any symptons at all self isolate. If you are seriously ill, diificulty breating etc call 999.

That’s my concern as I suffer from emphysema but a lady on the news said her and her Husband have underlying health issues and have been told to wait 7 days, and it appears all the deaths have come from people with underlying health issues.

Boris comments, Your comments and that video is absolute bollox. A leader that is willing to let hundreds of thousands die, I have no words. Try looking at the WHO advice.

There won’t be hundreds of thousands dying n this country. Yes there will be some but no where nr hundreds of thousands.

I would live to know what the response would be if they shut the schools and yes a 2 week shutdown should be considered........but what will the parents think unit being able to go to work so as to look after their children.

It's the easy option because it looks like you are doing all you can when the difficult and best option is to delay these tactics until they are most effective... when the virus is at it's peak and the public are not fatigued with self isolation at the most dangerous times.

All if's, but's and maybe's but I understand the justification for delaying tactics as explained in yesterdays press conference and I think that is a brave decision, not the easy option.

A lot has been written on this thread about the rights and wrongs of this medical strategy or that in order to combat the virus. These strategies are based on educated guess work best. The primary reason for calling a halt to the football seasson is not medical but political. With top level rugby, F1 and cricket fixtures being postponed, if the Premier League and EFL had decided to carry they would have been pillioried for bein greedy and uncaring. Football would have been forced to postpone in a week or two with its reputation badly damaged.

Im not so sure bazza with this imo crazy herd immunity approach

To get herd immunity roughly 60% have to get the virus...that’s 39 million...if just 1% die that would be 390000 people dying. If its closer to 2% which is what is what the death rate currently is, then that would be 780000 people dying. In Italy its something like 7%

1. No-one knows what the death rate is. Many people have it with no symptoms, or just mild ones, so the actual death rate may well be much lower

2. It also depends who gets it out of the 60%. If the 60% of the fittest, healthiest people in the country get it then the numbers dying will be much lower than if the 60% of unhealthiest and weakest get it

Not strictly true. That link I posted shows a few ways of estimating the death rate relative to the number of people showing symptoms, and taking account the average time from symptoms to death of 17 days (https://medium.com/@tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca). It has been running long enough to back calculate how many people had it when a given person died. In countries where they have locked down early (China outside Hubei, Japan, Singapore, HK), the death rate is <1%. In the countries which have been slow to lock down (e.g. Italy, Iran) it is 4-5%. The difference is about preparation and the ability of the system to not be overwhelmed.

Based on what, Baz?

If 60% get the virus, like Boris wants, and there's the same death rate here as currently in Italy, then that's about 2.75 million dead in the UK.

Ok then, so we’ll delay these tactics, allow the country to carry on going to pubs, clubs, cinemas, restaurants, gyms, and all manner of public gatherings, freely spreading the infection, and then once it’s got completely out of hand, then take action?!?

Yeah that makes sense!
