National News Official 2019 General Election Thread

I`m going to bed as normal, getting up in the morning and hoping to flick the telly on for a Conservative majority.

If there isn`t my campaign that "people didn`t know what they were voting for" will start forthwith! ? ?
I hope you have the "only x% of people voted for Labour, therefore the majority of the country didn't vote for them" post all created just in case.

I'm going to watch the exit poll and then head to bed - work doesn't stop for this nonsense and I'd rather be up early instead! Will sneak a peek at the results in the night though.

And if all goes well, I will look forward to a step back from politics for a while :)

We weren’t supposed to have another general election until 2020 after the 2015 one. We’ve had two more called since then, so you could argue that today is a third vote, let alone a second, because some people haven’t got the answer they wanted yet. Weird that nobody seems to be bothered by that.

IDS or Matt Hancock could be the ones to look out for, but it's hard to know with IDS as Shaheen is a rather marmite sort of character and a bit too Corbynista for some normal Labour supporters.
Raab under a real threat of being Portillo'd apparently ... and an outside bet that party leaders Alex ( B d P) Johnson and Jo Swinson may be usurped

I think Al will be ok as some polling showed the gap had significantly shortened, but not likely by enough. A case of the left splitting its vote again?

Raab is definitely on the chop - worth a sneaky bet for those into that sort of thing. Looks like the Beast of Bolsover could be gone too

surely not the genuine man of the working people Dennis Skinner is under any sort of threat?

If the right result isn’t achieved in the election will we get a people’s general election so we can decide without all the lies made before today?
No...but you will get a chance to overturn the result at the next election, which will definitely happen at some point over the next 5 years. Added to that, you can lobby your MP to maybe get a consensus of opinion amongst fellow MPs to hold a vote of no confidence in the government to bring it down and hasten the next election so you get to choose again.

That is how democracy is supposed to work...people are allowed to change their minds and ultimately change the decision if it was so palpably wrong at the first time of asking.

And that friends is why referenda have no place in a modern democracy, other than as a vehicle to gauge opinion, rather than a decision making tool in their own right....especially when they were only supposed to be advisory in the first place ;)

Yeah, it seems so. He's in the Midlands area where the locals aren't fond of Corbyn and voted to Leave and the vote is going to be close. To be fair, he's not looked in the best of health recently, and with all of the Westminster stuff, it would wear on younger people.

Also...

it maybe more than a 5 year fixed period of government if the torys get a large enough majority to bulldoze the dictatorial elements of their manifesto ( page 48) sadly ... hopefully the British electorate are sick and tired of 10 years of cuts and misery , and vote accordingly

My concern is that we'll end up with a hung parliament. The buffoon will then get into bed with anyone & everyone to hang on to his crown.
If labour loose this election ( & it looks sadly as if they will) they must take a really hard look at them selves, is it really just Their leader or their politics as well.
I dislike the buffoon more than I did the milk snatcher & I hated her.

IMO not one of the other party's ( Brexit party excluded- who will be decimated in this GE anyway ) would touch any kind of deal with Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson .... not even DUP after his mishandling of the brexit 'deal'

Went down to the polling station this morning....and carried right on past it! Quite simply a no win situation as far as I'm concerned.
