National News Official 2019 General Election Thread

Its all about opinions and perceptions imo
Yes, I love it. Some people take it too seriously and cannot accept other people's views. I suppose as football fans we often discuss matters involving "the opposition".

You’re good at this misquoting lark. You could almost be a Daily Mail journalist.

If someone from Blackbird Leys had committed half the the crimes that Boris Johnson has they would face legal consequences. Smashing up restaurants. Threatening your girlfriend. Lying to your employer. Passing large sums of public money to your friends. Conspiring with a criminal to threaten a journalist with violence. Are serious offences -unless you’re Boris Johnson.

So my point was that people from Blaare probably less likely to commit
Thought jezza shaded that debate

Johnson was like a stuck record (when not firing personal attacks) trotting out get brexit done constantly
Corbyn looked ill. The election was called because of Brexit. So you can hardly blame Boris for majoring on it. I liked the short snappy question section. It allowed us to find out a little bit more about our putative leaders. No clear winner for me.
Maybe Boris with his ‘magic money forest’ line.

To a degree I find myself agreeing with @Pete Burrett .
The Government (irrespective of party) have improved many peoples lot but not everyone`s.
Where my opinion probably differs is that the State should be a safety net, not a career choice, to help people back onto their feet with whatever services they need and properly funded!
For those who still can`t step from support to work I would have Work Fare. Getting up and doing tasks in exchange for a State wage. It would raise peoples well being and purpose over a period of time.
All Charities should have a salary cap for CEO`s directly related to their income & published. Likewise the amount they pay their staff should be equally reflective.

Folk often "blame Boris" for the Bridge debacle but that idea was first floated in 1998 and not ditched (irony!) until 2017..... 19 years of piddling around at great cost.
Sadly there are very many similar projects across the public sector that start & fail.... I hate to think how much is wasted.
Those are the problems that need solving......with clarity and accountability, legally if necessary.
That’s simply massively untrue. No sums were spent on the Garden Bridge until Boris Johnson became mayor of london.

He spent 47 millions of public money ( much going to his old friend Thomas Heatherwick or the Heatherwick run “ Garden Bridge trust “ they spent half a million quid on one “ fundraising “Party.

Hmmm , get brexit done imo wasnt the way to answer a question asked on NHS

Thought he looked a tad tired Corbyn , not ill, he is over 70 years old, and has been going all over the uk campaigning..... a senior citizen of that vintage ought to look a bit tired after the effort he puts in engaging with people of all walks all over the country imo

So...thoughts on the Tory Factcheck UK stunt on Twitter?

Dangerous path to go down if you ask me. Setting themselves up to appear as some authoritative voice on facts and the truth.

This kind of thing should be fully independent and the Tories knew that this is precisely how it would appear. Very dystopian, very Orwellian.

A new low for Cummings and his cronies.

On the bright side...nice to see Aaron Banks getting so het up about misuse of his personal data[emoji1787][emoji110][emoji97]

You think these things are cooked up overnight? Who "signs them off" is almost irrespective.
I would be looking more towards TfL as the clusterfuck agents..... https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...-project-charity-commission-concluding-report

Of course understanding the reality of public projects won`t change your blinkered opinion of those more fortunate than yourself.

Care to share a recent example of a company taken into public ownership from private which went wrong or are you unnecessarily worrying yourself?

We're not talking creating new companies from scratch. Staff, org structures, IT infra are already in place chap. And companies swap between owners daily. Project fear!
The other are smaller enterprises and non-key to how the country runs - power, phone, etc. RBS still retained the private sector management structure, but can you see Labour doing that? I'm not naive to think they'll retain the structure and just let it go when it is so politically motivated for them.

It's not project fear, it's reality of far left wing ideology.

The factcheck thing was very, very silly but judging by the reaction it got, they got what they wanted from it. It distracted a lot of momentum and other lefties from commenting on the debate as much as they usually do... Even so, I'd rather they had no done it

So yet more "look a squirrel!" tactics then, rather than debate the real issues?

What can they be so scared of

So no examples or fact, just gaslighting? Brainwashed.

whoever gets in we can look forward to broken promises and anything that directly hits your pocket will be 6pm that evening whilst anything alleged to be coming your way will start in 2-3 years.
Having listened to the 2 main runners i wouldn't want either of them but regardless we'll be stuck with one of them so life as normal or worse.

Lib Dems have introducing safe standing at football in their election manifesto ( think it was in their previous 2 manifestos too)
the also have decriminalisation of (some) controlled substances ( Greens have legalisation of controlled substances in theirs, Labour have an intention to re evaluate current legislation on controlled substances in theirs)

havent got links for any of them(yet)... info via a message from me youngest lad... who has been checking through avail ' manifestos

seems home secretary Raab really is living up to the comparisons with fictional ultra right wing tory mp Alan B'stard then ....

Sorry he`s right!

"They're crowdfunding for that purpose and we just cannot responsibly allow ourselves to be sued without taking the normal action in defending ourselves when the position that the representative and the family are pursuing in law is wrong.

"It pains me because I want to give them the solace of justice in this case.

"But we also need to protect the taxpayers' money and the legal position that we set out, which is the correct one.

"So it's very difficult, but that's the position that we're in."

Whilst it is a tragic case that could/should have been resolved much sooner, that doesn`t give the parents the right to pursue an incorrect legal position and somebody has to tell them that. The lawyer won`t (££££`s)!

The should be working with, not against the very State that can help them get justice!!

given how the current PM, when he was Home Sec', managed to drop the UKcitizen, mother n wife , Nazine Ratcliffe ,imprisoned in Iran, even deeper in trouble with the authorities there, with a typical Johnson gaffe ( baaaah, shes a journalist), I wouldnt trust ANY of the current shower in office to help me with any form of justice :cautious:
