A New World Class Community Stadium For The U’s

I have a different take which is that NM has released this info as a message to the owners that it's time to put up the readies and use their influence and to the Council(s) that they have a key part to play. He has told everyone what needs to happen publicly, if the backing isn't there he's now able to point back to this and say I was clear about the opportunity but.......
NM won't be here if this gets off the ground (no pun intended), they will bring in one of their high fliers to look after the club.

Thats True. I think those days are gone though where u can fully trust a owner to do right by the club, when it comes down to it they will always look after their pockets first. You run the risk that one owner decides they have had enough and can get their money back and more by selling the club and ground separately.
Or someone so stupid to buy the club only..

If this gets off the ground it will largely be down to NM
Really?
Surely the credit has to go to DE for first employing NM, then selling the club to people who have the why and wherefor to make it happen, I suppose NM part is to p***off FK and a fine job he's doing.

I suppose the people trying to do a better deal with him, that affects all of us, so is your bests interest is the club or your personal feelings.

Kassam doesn't care.
You wont get a decent deal with him regardless of how nice you are to him. I think that he has made that pretty clear over the years.

If you say so, but others are at least trying as they should.
No guarantee the shiny new stadium will come to fruition, so it makes sense to cover all bases.

I can see pro's and cons for both buying the Kassam and moving.

Pro staying at the Kassam:

No need to pay through the nose for planning permission/new plot of land
A pretty good location for getting to the stadium from pretty much every part of the county
One of the best grounds in the football league to park at for free
Will need small tweaks to bring it up to scratch
Ready built facilities that can be developed into money making ventures for the club

Cons for staying at the Kassam:

Even if you built a 4th stand it would still lack atmosphere due to stands being too far away from the pitch, too big and spread out.
Will have to pay over the odds to buy and then improve the stadium to make it into a money making venture.
Even though the stadium is great for parking it is a nightmare to get away from.
Majority of the fan base already hate the stadium.
Lack of real pubs near the ground make match day experience poor for most.

Pro's for leaving:

Can get a purpose build stadium and learn from the mistakes made from the Kassam
Could end up in a better location for fans to get to the ground with better transfer links.
Would get rid of Kassam once and for all from the club

Con's for leaving:

Will cost a stupid amount of money

I personally would love to see us in a new stadium where the stands are as close as possible to the pitch but steep, 4 stands but with a 12000 capacity with the possibility to increase it as and when. We don't need more than that until we are an established championship side. If you housed away fans in just 1 stand behind the goal then you wouldn't need to worry about secretion taking away ticket sells like we do now.

As for funding it, what ever happens, OUFC need some one or some people to stump the cash up. No one is going to gift us a stadium. With Thoir's background I trust him a hell of a lot more than I do Kassam.

I've heard all the usual rumoured location, Oxpens, Sandy Lane, Peartree, Stratfield Brake etc but a Left field one I heard this week which hasn't been mentioned on here to my knowledge is a large brownfield ex MOD site right next to Islip Station. 2 mins from A34, 5 mins from M40, 12 mins train journey and only 6 miles from Oxford City Centre, 10 mins from Kidlington airport, 4 mins train from Ox Parkway Park n Ride with plenty of room for a multi use sports / conference / hotel facility.
Apologies if already mentioned on here in the past. Would be disappointing from a pre match drink point of view unless Islip has more facilities than I suspect?

I look forward to the day when my biggest worry about attending our spanking new stadium with great transport links is whether there's a quaint pub nearby!

Love the optimism re the strategic importance of Kidlington Airport - is that for all the international signings we're going to make or for when we're in the Champions League?

We can but dream.

Probably true but to set the ball rolling, he needs the council to help and ££s from the Board so the point stands.

i am basing my comments and opinion on what i've witnessed that in general people have no interest in football in Oxford. then there's the already stretched leisure pound + other things people/families tend to do with their weekends.

do tell how without a lot of luck we are going to get to the championship, general opinion aim most seasons has been a play off place and a cup run
we've struggled for the past 2 seasons and it could be argued that's partly down to constant turn over of players
i'm certainly not calling for money to be thrown at it but it would be nice if for once we built a team to stay together with the odd tweak for 2/3 seasons and had a proper go rather than keep breaking up the team because player A or B deserves his chance to play in the league above which is the very place we are meant to be aiming for.

The most sensible post I’ve seen on this forum, bang on it!

@Manorlounger you are exactly right. There is a greater cost to Oxford United staying at the Kassam both financially and in terms of our long term future. Rent and service charges plus no match day revenue makes it almost impossible to cover our costs without selling players regularly. In addition, the stadium is a soulless and depressing place to come to and must put off fans, especially families. I used to take my little boy when he was 12mths old. I had to change him on the sinks in disgusting toilets. He is now 3 and the actual game is fine, but there is nothing to do before the game. I've only taken him to games at the beginning/end of the season as it is just too cold for him for otherwise. Because I've been a fan for years, I'll always look to find a way to go and make it something the kids also love, but if this was my their experience I doubt we'd come back.

A new stadium offers a real opportunity to offer a real experience to families ensuring that these kids grow into life long fans. It might not be perfect, but the cost of not looking at this could be the end of our club.

But I thought the only option was to stay at the Kassam?

You’re not Charlie in disguise are you?

I thought others said he cares about the club?!

Personally I can`t see any further than this. If you add in the fourth stand groundworks are already in situ under the car park then paying FK`s price and improving what is already there is a high scoring option.
