Ex-Staff The Karl Robinson Thread

I have never been a fan of his post match interviews. They have grated on me from day 1. They were repetitive at best and ludicrous at worst. He sounded like a politician at times, not a football manager. He obviously has words he loves to use…passion, humility, etc. It was like interview bingo well after week.
I suppose I was able to put up with it when we were playing good attacking and exciting football but that’s just not been the case for a long time. We have resorted to long ball this year and it’s not working…clearly.

I feel relief he’s gone, everyone does, but I do wonder who we will bring in. I don’t think there are many obvious candidates. Short needs to go. He’s Robinson man. If he’s in charge, which is likely given his seniority over brown and Leon, is it gonna be any better on Saturday. I hope the players rise above it and show some fight.

I’ve always thought time helps when it comes to judging a manager.

Chris Wilder. It was time for him to move on. He had clearly had enough at the club at the point he left. However you can now look back at him as a legend. He took over a dying football club (literally) in the conference & left it at the top end of League 2.

Michael Appleton. The man who took us to the next level but still people look back at his exit now in a weird way. He got offered a PL assistant job on major money. Eales was making major behind the scenes cuts. He took over a top half League 2 side and turned it in to a top half League 1 side in a few years. He made us respected across the whole pyramid. For me, another legend.

Pep Clotet. He completely ruined Appletons legacy. The less said about him the better. Utter fraud of a man.

Karl Robinson. He put back together legacy of Appleton but with more focus of attacking & simply not caring about defending. He made us League 1 entertainers for nearly 3 years. The nearly men.

But what’s his legacy? The last 18 months of his time he came away from what made him liked here and reverted to Clotet’s way.

Has he been a success? Absolutely not.
If he had left or walked away in the summer then my view on his time at Oxford would be very different.

His acts on & off the pitch the last 12 months have completely tarnished how I perceive him. Maybe time will change that?

After failing to get enough players into the squad which is at best poor but really unforgivable Can someone confirm to me about players on loan,I know Taylor and Stevens and even Moushino can’t come back but does that apply to Jodi Jones? Not sure it applies outside top four divisions
Could be with all our injured wingers he could come back if allowed

I have no doubt that a new head coach/manager will want his own staff but, Shorty is not a Robinson man from all that I've heard. They were seen to have differences of opinion and I was told of at least one occasion when Shorty was seen to raise eyebrows at comments made, in public, by Robinson. That may seem trite but, the norm would have been for an outwardly neutral position not, obvious disagreement.
Shorty and Blackmore-Such are though, at best, a very brief interim solution.

KR deserves a lot of respect. He worked very hard and tried to make us a success. If he was a rubbish as a lot of 'fans' make out he would have not lasted 12 months. 5 years of full commitment and passion from him. A really decent bloke who loves football and lets not forget about how good some of that football was. We we so close and will never have a better chance than that Wycombe game.

He had to go now, as we are in freefall and so looking forward. No shame in shouting out for 2 former managers with unfinished business. Step forward Mr Wilder and Appleton. CW failed in 4/5 years to get us out of L2. He had to go at the time, but I always wonder how he worked those miracles in 12 months at Northampton and failed with us!

Appleton could be good next season, but turning around fortunes quickly is not something he is known for. Wilder will probably steady the ship immediately......if he will come to L1.

One player I'm going to be really interested to see in the coming weeks is Josh Johnson. Outstanding at youth team level, looked good pre-season, looked good v Palace, then disappeared. Typical fraudulent Robinson trick of bringing him on v Arsenal so that the outside world thinks "he's really good at bringing on youth players", as his only real achievement ever came when he lucked in to having Dele Ali in League 1, then disappeared again. Our midfield is struggling, especially for a player to play in front of the back 4. Interested to see if Johnson is one who really kicks on given a chance with a new person in charge.

If I’m not mistaken our 18 year old youth team player is now the only fit centre forward available for selection. Baldock was an accident waiting to happen and Robinson was happy for Taylor to go on loan to Port Vale. Great work Karl.

That leaves Wildschut, Joseph, Konate and Brown (long way from fully fit) who are wide forwards. They are not midfield players. Murphy isn’t interested, Smith injured.

We‘ve been crying out for a specialist DCM since Gorrin was injured 14 months ago. We still haven’t got one.

We don’t have a single specialist fullback in the first team squad. Long and Brown are converted centre backs. Anderson and Fleming are wingbacks.

Yet Robinson continued right up until yesterday to favour 4-3-3 or some hybrid version of it for most of the season, when the players he had available were not suited to it.

In my view we have to go 3-5-2/5-3-2 with the players available. Three at the back, two wingbacks, flood the midfield, 2 upfront. It‘s not ideal, it won’t be pretty, but we’ve got to build a foundation. Make it difficult for the opposition to gain control of the midfield , try a keep a clean sheet and stay in games as long as we can. It doesn’t matter how the points come as long as do.

Robinson has left behind a complete mess and whoever comes in has got one hell of a job on their hands. We need to get behind whoever that maybe.

Bazz at full time when Birdio tries to do the lap of honour naked again

There is no way on earth Bazzer could move that fast. Lol

He’s not going to be obviously disrespectful as it wouldn’t look good on him in a professional environment, but I know for a fact that what I’ve stated is the case. He’s a decent lad & he’s worded it in a way where it sounds like it can be disrespectful but also in a way where it can sound like he’s paying him respect. People that have came into contact with Sykes & Whyte will tell you like Ryan did that they couldn’t get away from the club quick enough as they knew where it was heading this season. It’s no coincidence our transfer dealings were harder than ever, that’s without Karl’s obvious failings due to allowing his personal life to get in the way of his job. Players talk, that’s why we have struggled to get the right players. They all talk to each other & KR didn’t have a good reputation towards the end & as such we got dealt freebies & his mates who couldn’t get a contract elsewhere
what is this treatment though? something most managers do?

The club having seemingly nothing lined up so we have no option. We need to get fully behind the players now but the club still needs to find both a short and long term solution.
Which is why the current structure that was very dependable on Karl was wrong, hence when he was removed it’s left a big hole/void.

Is he though? KR talked about certain loan players not living up to expectations. Could it be he was frozen out aswell?

It’s a shame we’re away on Saturday. I think it would’ve been good to show our full support for the lads.
Looking forward to 11th March.

Praise the Lord!
The relief is palpable and thank goodness they finally listened and took action.
The sense of apathy descending the club and impotence of the fans’ ability to enforce any changes has become a huge worry and burden. Hopefully that weight has been lifted with the long overdue dismissal. Think we need an overhaul of all the coaching staff and start with a clean slate a la Plymouth.
The repair work needs to begin as soon as possible.
Thanks Karl for some good memories but probably 6-12 months too late.
