A worthy initiative, but I wish Mr Robinson hadn’t publicly hung young players out to dry last season - going on the radio when they were struggling and saying things like “they’re not my player” and so on - as it was very much the opposite of helpful in terms of this subject. As was publicly saying that Ivo Pekalski, who had been a bit of a public figure for depression in football in his native Sweden, would be made to run and run on the training pitch until he agreed to rip up a contract he had signed in good faith. I find it disingenuous on a human level to behave that way and do those things while saying something entirely different now.
Here is hoping that some lessons were learned on that front. This is a very important topic that if treated with genuine care could bring about an awful lot of good. It’s not to be used as a PR exercise so I hope that there is some sincerity coming into play - this is important stuff.
