So let me check if I've got this:

Managing somewhere isn't relevant experience of management. Not managing somewhere is relevant experience of management, as long as it wasn't done in the right place?
Isn't this just us trying to be PC and attract attention by appointing an Indian manager?

I think this is about right. Football in Australia and New Zealand isn't transferable, that much is clear.

I am pretty sure this must be because the rules are different over there, but I haven't bothered to check as that would undermine my ability to cast aspersions.
Haven't you heard of Australian Rules??

I believe they have even called the game Aussie rules and make them wear horrible vests, Buckingham can do one if he thinks he is getting the lads to wear them in winter.

I do understand your point. I just think given the league position we are in, I think a better choice could be someone who can get positive results quicker. I suspect Buckingham will be a slow burner
How could you possibly know that Buckingham will be a slow burner and someone else would get positive results quicker though? That's just total guesswork. As George Elek brilliantly researched in his article, the "tried and trusted" managers certainly haven't been the way forward for league winners and promoted sides recently.

Buckingham and Manning have bounced ideas off each other in the past and will have similar ways of playing, surely that's more likely to suit our current squad than a more experienced manager who is set in his ways?

I think there is too much confidence in the Des Buckingham story now. Seems nailed on he will be our new manger. Much more excited by this when snakey joined us.
You may be right, I have no idea. However it seems to me this conversation is one big echo chamber and if one person says it, that becomes fact so the next person says the same which means its definitely fact..... Until it isnt! Luke Williams had two interviews and is odds on until Luke Williams says he hasnt been approached so didnt have any interviews.

Cutting-edge journalism from them
That particular show is dire. I tuned in to listen to what LM had to say for himself, which seemed to be a cut and paste job from his early Oxford interviews - and waited for the OUFC managerial 'news'.

I had to endure some painful exchanges between White and Jordan (both I find particularly unpalatable) discussing various topics. Jordan seems to use to show as a soapbox to broadcast a firm sense of self-piety. He certainly likes the sound of his own voice.

Well, I said Monday that Buckingham was the choice as that’s what I’d been told. It was just whether they could agree the compensation.
I know you said on Monday Buckingham was the choice, ive read it on every page of this thread. I have no idea why you think its relevant to the point im making though.

No, we.would be paying hundreds of thousands for someone who has a great.deal.of experience in lower quality leagues, that isn't even this country.
Whatever romance is blinding people's way of thinking.
Personally I would rather take someone who has managed a club at and dealt with all that comes with it. A young premier league coach is possibly more of a risk, as completely untested. Whoever we take is a gamble/risk, whether that be an experienced manager, a young untried coach, a successful manager from the lower leagues. Could name endless managers who have succeeded at L1 and gone to be established Premier League, only to fall away again. If we were offered Paul Lambert 8 years ago we would been in dream land, but now would be completely underwhelmed.

It's about getting the right fit at the right time. So many elements have to work and you need some luck, but the most important thing is the club seem to have a model that does not need destroying, so you have to slot into the model to keep it progressing and evolving.

Someone in England will be taking a chance on Des very soon so why not us? He could be a coup or a flop, but so could anyone. I have faith in what the board are doing here.

'WE' aren't paying anything. The owners are. They will see their own financial benefits in the future.

You're right. "Aussie Rules" is definitely a thing I've heard. I don't know what it means but I'm sure I've heard it.

Edit: acknowledging that @werthersoriginal made the same 'joke' in a slightly different fashion further up the thread.

2nd Edit: And @holdsteady too.

Why do I f*****g bother?

In the nineties there was a quantum shift in attitudes towards management not just in football.

The theory was that anyone with any management skills could seamlessly be transplanted across disciplines not relevant to their background.

So the idea was that a supermarket manager could say become an IT manager without any practical knowledge of IT.

This spawned a culture of motivational and team building nonsense and the empowerment of people who had no idea what they were doing.

The focus shifted from achievement to bullsh*t the failures from which were glossed over with pointless courses and other exercises to paper over the cracks.
The people who had the knowledge and expertise got fed up and took early retirement as many organisations adopting those policies found themselves in a quagmire of new age managerial strife and unable to function.

Once the culprits realised they were being found out most left to wreak havoc in other businesses where they repeated the process.

So,is it important that managers in any field have relevant experience?
You bet it is.

I think its because we are further down the process road now. Just too much noise out there. It happened with Manning. Even though some lazy journalism will just pinch stories, there will be some ITK with good contacts.
