Would think he'd be a starter. That'd be one of the reasons that Brentford are happy for him to drop to League One (if as rumoured there is Championship interest).

What's interesting is that it sounds like he's more a right back than wing back.
That’s was my first thought is he a RB or RWB I assume he can play both as Brentford usually play with wing backs I’d imagine it’s something they do at every level of their age groups like most top teams.

You say that, but if we sign a striker, we can then drop Go’D down the pitch into one of the full-back positions. Bodin can then play in the other full-back position.
Now there's a thought…….

What does the signing of Stevens mean for Sam Long? Will Stevens be his understudy or is there genuine competition for right back now?
It always makes me laugh when we manage to beat out a load of other clubs for a really highly rated youth international player from a Premier League club and people ask ‘Oh right, will they be an understudy for X then? Maybe start in the EFL Trophy games?’

Beadle isn’t coming here from Brighton to sit on the bench just in case Simon Eastwood gets injured, and if we get Stevens it’s not because we’ve told Brentford ‘We need someone who can cover our current, steady right back, I guess he might get a cup game or two?’

If Stevens comes here then he’s coming as a starter.

Ruffels did OK in our hey day of pinning teams back. Scored goals, provided some etc. No complaints with that side of his game. The problems came when a team completely unafraid of us went for our throat and suddenly he was exposed as a well below average defender. His performance against Blackpool in that play off game summed him up and I wasn't upset by his departure. It was an opportunity missed to get someone well-rounded.

Potentially in a back 5 where his duties going forward are more relevant will suit him. He should be a better player for his Championship spell. To say it would be underwhelming is an understatement but it's another solid upper-end L1 pro in the bank and one less problem to solve.

Excited by the Finn Stevens & Sam Nombe links, I must say.

Sorry to disagree with you but Joseph worked his nuts off on the pitch , he covered more ground than any other player by a hell of a lot ! If all the team worked as hard we would of walked league 1!
I agree was a bit raw when he came to us but with a bit better coaching that he will get and a whole pre season if we did decide to get him he will turn out to be a good bye I will like to see him back as I think you will see a different/ better player

If you wanted a defensive minded left back for those games then we already have Ciaron Brown.
