Current Player #18 Marcus McGuane

He was the only person in our midfield that looked remotely dangerous, for that reason I think he'd be a worthwhile signing providing the medical team are happy with him. But I think we need to be looking at a second player though in that sort of mould, happy to pick up the ball and run at the opposition, most of our CMs this season have been quite pedestrian, and when a team stands off you and sits back, passing it sideways 100 times doesn't break those teams down

Only if you behave like a total bell end while getting half the things you say wrong, while simultaneously pretending otherwise and talking to people in a disrespectful manner.

Somebody like you who gets things consistently right and talks to people with respect is very much liked and welcome.

Help yourself to an After Eight, sir.
I have a warm glow inside and shall upgrade to a Hotel Chocolat Easter bunny. (y)

Maybe if KR can actually see it then Sean Clare could be the alternative for that role.

Did anyone else collect the empty wrappers and put them back in the box to sniff later? - Only me then?

He was absolutely brilliant by the end of his stay and was probably a big reason why are form dropped off.
We won 5 out of the next 6 without him and won the game against Rovers that he went off in. He's good but not that good!!

And who told them about Marcus McGuane before going on the air? I think we’ve definitely been lining up some good news. Most people were starting to look towards next season after Sunderland anyway.

Either way, it’s not really a ‘gripe’, merely an observation. I do think he’s been built up a little bit regardless. Not a bad player at all, but people are talking about him like he’s prime Marcus Browne when he didn’t even score a goal in nearly half a season of fixtures.
Wasnt there a similar over-hyped fanfare when we signed Jordan Graham on loan? As others have said, he has potential, but hopefully he wont be drummed up as the marquee signing of the summer IF he signs. For his sake as much as anything. Hopefully he’ll be allowed to find his feet without too much pressure.

I know i'm pretty much alone in this but for me he is very much like Marcus Browne ie an individual rather than a team player

Thought he class from December until he got injured. We miss him so much. We don't have another midfielder like him. We'd be lucky to get him back.

People used to use goalscoring as a stick to beat Modric with when he was at Spurs, especially Liverpool fans who couldn’t allow any other midfielder in the prem at the same time as St slippy G to get any praise. He turned out to be a half decent player when he went to Real Madrid.

Not saying he is anywhere near that level but towards the end when it clicked for him his ability to carry the ball forward from centre midfield was a pleasure to watch, we have no one else who can do that, he was involved in a lot of our build up play.

I think you will find that a certain player of ours on loan at Burton at the moment is fulfilling the box to box midfielder role or so I have heard!

I’m confused now, which one is the messiah? I think people here can get too focused on individual players, when we play really well or really badly it’s often a collective or tactical issue rather than down to a particular individual. Mcguane was tremendous once he got going though. If we do sign him and plan to rely on his style I hope we make sure we have a deputy that can fulfil a similar role.

Brannigan, Clare and McGuane is a midfield three made up of three completely different but all very good (at L1 level) midfielders...

Forest fans think he should either be back at the club or playing at Championship level.
I can see why they think the club should have a look at him properly, but I'll bet not a single one of those Forest fans have seen him play. If they had, they'd be a bit underwhelmed by Championship standards. I thought he'd begun to get to grips with things when he got injured and we've definitely missed someone to drive at a defence from midfield, but he is very much unproven still.

Yes agree with you, it never ends well focusing on single players as the messiah. I liked McGuane too but holding him up as our saviour is very OTT so agree with you there. Having said that we do miss someone who can drive from midfield and get box to box. If we sign him and if Claire comes back from Burton we will hopefully have a couple of players who can do that. On the other hand neither of those players are prolific and one thing we need more of is goals from midfield.

Id be happy with this signing. Hes not somebody who will transform us from the bottling also rans we are now, but he gives us impetus from midfield and will benefit from frequent football.

Whether he fancies an annual relegation battle followed by a valiant run to mid table is another question. Still, Sean Clare could do a job there....
