Home Match Day Thread +++ 29/01/2019 OUFC v Barnsley Match Day Thread +++

We were comfortable at 2-0 and should’ve been 4 or 5 clear with the missed chances, saves and woodwork strikes, but it’s hard to be too down overall. Nobody expected us to take anything from this and we fought hard. You can’t knock the desire and the effort, even if it’s annoying to not win the game at 2-0 up.

We gave it everything and got a result. Take something from that.

That challenge on Whyte by Lindsay was an utter disgrace. Quite how that muppet Kettle thought it was a booking, I will never know. It was awful and lucky Whyte didn't get badly injured. The Pompey Ref was a top team soft touch, and the officials were again today. Gav Whyte is lucky to come out of that game not being badly injured.

I know some will blather on about KRs post match interview, but he has every right to be angry about what permitted on the pitch today. Annoying to draw, but a very valuable point. No one should be too disheartened. Tactically, we caused them issues and for excellent saves, would have won

So if your posts are directly correlated to the occurrence of opposition goals...why then would you post when we've just been pegged back to 2-2...?
@uncle You knew that if you posted it would be the Scunny game all over again. At 2-0 you felt a but silly, as soon as it went to 2-1 you composed your post, ready to send as soon as the equaliser went in. Just doing that led us to concede. And when under the kosh at 2-2 didn't you think it likely and secretly want us to lose 3-2? Bizarre excuse. Robinsonesque. Try again?

Agree with all that but, (just back from the game) , i still think both Lindsay and mowatt shouldve had straight red cards in 2nd half.. .Barnsley can play a bit, we matched em, the only way they got anything was by kicking lumps out of us, whyte & Graham (specifically) and gambled on a weak spineless ref to not dish out red cards... decent Oxford performance I thought , with a costly mistake (hanson)costing all 3pts

Gutted to draw but that’s 4 points taken at home against Barnsley and Pompey in the last two games, so you have to be fairly happy. Should of won tonight, I never complain about refs but how they never had a man sent off is a mystery to me.

Thought our lack of squad strength showed at the end, Mackie and Graham were excellent but for different reasons they are not 90 minute men, we had nothing to bring on though.

Barnsley official Twitter account think the Lindsay challenge was only a yellow. Gimme a break!!!

Just back. Top performance for 65 minutes, should have been out of sight. Anyone saying the players aren't playing for Robinson or similar needs to have a look at themselves, we played like it was a cup final for about an hour today, 100% effort. You could see the turn coming though, we looked utterly gassed. KR not wrong to point out the options they had on the bench, their subs changed the game. Also, unpopular opinion but I thought the ref had a good game today. Let the game flow. The Lindsey challenge on Whyte was never a red, lets take the yellow-tinted specs off. Standard tactical foul when your man's just gone past you on the half way line, classic booking, nothing more.

Other positives ....in the main decent corners even scored from one!!, by not sitting back (until for a bit when it was 2-1), it was us pressing them. Decent attacking performance from oxford , lots of on target attempts too, overall a performance which richly deserved all 3pts

Barnsley are no mugs, they'll more than likely take one of the auto promotion places come may

A very decent performance. All of the players put in 100%. Mackie, Branaghan, Whyte and Mousingo were excellent. I was surprised how Mackie unsettled the defence of such a top team. They were terrified of him..Very disappointing to give up the 2 goal lead but Barnsley had won their last 6 so it was a decent result.

Nastiest team we’ve played at home in years, they got away with 2 reds, we got right in their faces and they didn’t like it. It was when we backed off that they came back into it, we played well mouse was defo man of the match, we actually looked really dangerous from corners.

Great spirit and fight from the Yellows tonight very unlucky not to be out of sight at half time. When teams have the depth to bring K Moore on as a sub and the ref and forth official don't do their job it becomes almost impossible. Would have snatched arms off for a draw at 19.45 so I've actually come back reasonably happy. Poor attendance, forecast snowflakes kept the snowflakes away by the look of it.

Just back and reflecting on what, for me, was the best L1 match i’ve Witnessed this season.

A pulsating affair , end to end, thrills and spills and united came out of that with a lot of credit.

We were unlucky at times and caused them no end of problems and were n’t flattered to be 2 up -
it could have been two or three more. Barnsley to their credit clawed themselves back into it after
Moore and Green were introduced. Thought their first was soft ; could Eastwood have done better?

The second goal looked calamitous from the SSU but Moore pounced brilliantly on the cross
to net at the near post.

Overall I would have gladly taken a draw this morning - we look though to have defensive shortcomings conceding
far too many poor goals. Going forward we look a threat. A new striker will strengthen us and I reckon
we’ll be ok.

Poor , poor crowd tonight for such a high quality match.

I couldn’t decide if it was an improvement on our set piece taking or because Barnsley were zonal marking and did a poor job at it, either way it worked in our benefit and we were unlucky to just put one of them away

Fantastic performance tonight. Credit where credits due.
I can’t help thinking poor defending again let us down. Having said that at time Barnsley were excellent.

Good entertainment tonight. Nice to watch their backs getting dicked by 'little Gav' time after time. ?

Shame that that the only way the Tykes could deal with us was to revert to clogging - sad but it seems to be the way, oop norf.

I can sympathise with Robbo to a degree. It must be really frustrating to be booked for comments but to see the opposition unpunished simply because of a language difference.

I didn't realise the 4th official was the infamous Mr Trevor 'Tin pot' Kettle. We were lucky to get away with a point in that case. ?
