Darlington have asked if they can move back to the White elephant stadium, due to attendance restriction. Which would see 527 fans allowed in.

Their current stadium has a capacity of 3,281 and attendances between 1300-2000. So if they can move back to the 25,000 old stadium all fans will be able to attend games!

The League has to agree it.

How many times did the U's play at the previously named " Reynolds Arena. "

I went there for a game and could not believe the quality of fittings in the Gents. The pies were unbelievably good too
and they had a very good Bar 66 for pre-match beers.

I think I read they left in 2012, thought it was longer than that.

Lucky them, they can have all 1300 fans back.

Not exactly a team to get the pulse racing!

Was thinking just that!

Am I right in recalling that Lee Mansell got fan's player of the season? Pretty much just for looking like he was trying?

I think you are right about Lee Mansell. I don't remember many being bothered when he left.

Moving into the 25,000 Reynolds Arena must have been one of the strangest actions in lower league football history!

One of Darlington's first home matches there (possibly the inaugural game?) was against Hartlepool, their local rivals. Despite extensive marketing the crowd was under 12,000, a figure that Darlington never again got close to.

Can anyone recall, was there something decidedly 'dodgy' about Mr Reynolds?

EDIT - to answer my own question, yes there was!

Remember going to that game. Remember seeing a burnt out bin lorry on the motorway on the way up there which always sticks in my mind...

I completely forgot how baggy football shirts were back then too!

That was the season we lost our league status. Only Hackett from that team would seriously challenge for a place in our current team. IIRC he was sold mid-season by FK to Herts for a miserly £20k ...... allegedly to fund the SSU complimenary coffee and biscuits.

Some of Hackett's wing-play from that dreadful season.
