National News Covidiots.....

With Bournemouth v Crystal Palace live on the BBC next Saturday night that should keep the youngsters in.

Where is the tipping point between some people out doing what they want making those people social distancing pointless? With shops and schools reopening, loads of people going out to work and a huge return to socialising (whether following the rules or in a growing amount of cases not) their must be a point where it makes no difference. It will soon come down to either lockdown again (near impossible at this stage in my opinion) or just go back to how life used to be, at the moment we are in some strange in between situation that is costing a fortune but achieving no more than a slowdown of spread at the very best.

It's as if we've given lockdown a go, but now we're betting on herd immunity as the way forward.

Yep, we locked down (eventually, after hoping we wouldn't have to), found we'd left it too late to stop the virus being prevalent in the population, have now realised the infections and R rate aren't coming down that quickly and in order to stop terminal damage to the economy have now loosened the lock down to the point where the government can say they are doing something but have actually left us largely to our own devices. Some will keep at home if they can, others will flout the guidelines with very little comeback. There's a part of me that thinks the hope was that a vaccine (or at least an effective treatment) would have been found by now.

So yes, herd immunity it is. Let's hope that there aren't too many weaker members of the herd.

I think the whole lockdown collapsed about 3 weeks ago when the message was changed to be honest. Been a big shift in attitudes.
When stay at home became stay alert, which was swiftly followed by one of the main (unelected) people in charge of the whole thing shrugging at the fact he flaunted the rules and lied about it, it all fell apart. Anybody with half a brain knew and said as much at the time. It isn’t even debatable.

It was a positively colossal disaster in terms of messaging and a staggering show of incompetence by those in charge, and it served only to empower a desperate and angry nation of people - most of whom were losing jobs as well as a lot of family / social contact and support - to take matters into their own hands. Millions of people immediately switched off when saying absolutely nothing would have prevented it, as we were largely and overwhelmingly doing what we were told.

Hats off to them, though. They’ve served up quite the delicious treat as far as irony goes. Seeing as the only people who believe that others using their common sense is a reasonable and effective means of policing social behaviour during a pandemic, are the people who don’t have any themselves.

That’s the problem with this particular attempt at ‘herd immunity’. Genuine herd immunity is usually carried out alongside some form of antibiotics or vaccine to leave deaths at an absolute minimum. This type of herd immunity is one that knowingly condemns thousands of people to death.

In any other walk of life that’s called murder :)

Yep. Woolly messages are of no use at all.
Covidiots need clear and stern messages. There is a very good chance that the death rate will rise again because of this.
