Ex Player Ateef Konate

Pah, that's nothing.

Mike Salmon - 1 game, no touches, 7 goals.

Just maybeee this is one of those OUFC myths that has been held for so long that it's become an established truth (eg, David Kemp was the reason we flopped so much in 2000-01 when it was Denis Smith who signed most of the dross), but was Salmon not the only person involved in such a mauling?

Watching it back again, Salmon is suspect on a good few of the goals especially the first and positioning for the second (Gilly being bullied is the other standout for that one) but - good grief - the defence and midfield are complicit too. The setup at the corner for the fifth, the complete blunder for the sixth and the 3-against-2/defensive support for the seventh gave no 'keeper much chance.

Oh it's undoubtedly been exaggerated over time, it was a complete team disaster that day.

From my recollections of the day the goals flew in unopposed, but were more down to defensive slackness than flagrant goalkeeping errors.

And actually about 3 weeks earlier Oxford had beaten Birmingham 1-0 in the away game.

Best thing is we went to St Andrews and beat them that same season, with Brian Wilsterman a colossus at the back.
A very odd season!

I think it's the first goal that is the reason that Salmon has gone down in infamy. The Birmingham winger has hooked his cross, so it goes straight at Salmon at a reasonable height - he goes for what should be a routine tip over the bar, and instead limpy pushes it up in the air so that it comes down weakly about two yards from the goal for a simple tap-in. Genuinely think it's one of the worst OUFC goalkeeping blunders that I can recall......with only Clarkey at Wembley ahead of it.

Vividly remember standing right behind it on the London Road, and having no idea who our keeper was (whether that was because I showed up late, or the Manor PA was on the fritz again, I can't say), and thinking "What the hell? Who the **** is this clown we've got playing in goal?"

He's less culpable than the rest of the defense for the next six goals!

That’s a thread worthy of the off season!

Ian McCaldon v York City in 2001.

Andy Woodman’s disasterclass v Aston Villa in 2003.

Billy Turley v Grays in 2008.

Love it.

The Turley one is worse than Salmon. Hell, that's worse than Clarke. Can't have been there that day, because I have no memory of it whatsoever!

The McCaldon one is bad.....but keepers do get their kicks charged down every once in a while. It's just rare that it ricochets into the goal.

Woodman obviously gets a big bonus for dropping two absolute clangers in the same game. But I don't think either of them are as bad as Salmon's on their own.

Beaten by Grays in the League under Darren Patterson...s**t the bed!
To be fair, that team contained Aaron McLean and Michael Kightly. They were very, very good.

McLean is actually the only player I can remember getting a standing ovation at the Kasstad when subbed.
I remember that! 0-0 I think. There was also a Port Vale guy, Drew someone, that I remember being applauded off.

I was at the game and the highlight of the day was being in the pub by 9am, the land lady made us sausage and chips specially and then we had a little Chinese lady come round and try and sell us some knock off porn DVD’s, sorry @RyanioBirdio i can’t remember the name of the pub!
