Current Player #39 Gatlin O'Donkor

Maybe we shouldn’t write him off just yet to do a job for us in the future. We let him down slightly by not getting in another striker in the summer to allow him to go out on loan all season.
Disagree, we've let him down massively over the last 18 months by relying on him before he's ready. It's to Des' credit that he's finally sorted him out with a loan. I'd also give some leeway to Manning who had plenty of fires to put out in the summer, although we should have had another striker in. The bigger issues were before that where we had half a decade to make sure we had enough strikers but didn't manage it.

It’s one of the reasons why we should have kept Matty Taylor as it would have allowed GOD to go on loan earlier and have an experienced striker on the books to come. Saying that, Taylor wanted game time which we couldn’t promise him.
Another factor is, I think Perkins was brought in to allow GOD to go out but due to him not stepping up and ending up as a failure meant GOD stayed.

I don't give Manning any leeway on this
He should clearly have got in a second / third striker as virtually everyone was suggesting.
GOD should have been on loan all season

GOD should have been training/playing with someone like MT to learn the bits of craft he needs.
Instead of which we chucked him on when games were gone and actively hindered his development by not looking after him or finding him loans etc.

He did get Perkins in to be fair but it didn't work. Certainly don't disagree we were left short up top and he's not blameless by any stretch but he had a lot of other fires to put out. If Perkins has worked then maybe we'd have seen GOD out on loan earlier.

Hopefully Barnet get promoted into the League and they want to take him back next season in League Two, would be nice progression for him

Yeah I like Barnet. Good little club, no axe to grind with them. I hope Gatlin fills his boots and scores plenty, he’s certainly made a decent impact by the looks of it. Just a shame the loan couldn’t of been sooner, for his benefit!

They’ll have to go via the playoffs to get there. Even with a few little wobbles lately, Chesterfield are 20 points clear at the top of the NL. Paul Cook just fits in well there. (Their wobble has nothing on Leicester’s recent reverse of form - it’ll be extraordinary if they continue to drop since they looked like they had the Championship title sewn up weeks ago.)

It’ll be a few extra games for GO’D too and higher pressure games too which can only be good for him. I’m so glad that he got a gig at a top NL side and he’s proving his worth. Good lad.

He's never a L1 player, hope he does well.

But you can see he's not got what it takes at this level.

A bit like Tshimanga? Scored plenty at Chesterfield, moved to Lge 1, now back on loan in the conference, and scored yesterday.

He’s 19… still plenty of development to do. I massively disagree here, think he’s very raw but clearly a player in there.

Could be a league one player there, how many years it will take that to happen might be the problem, I reckon it will be a couple of seasons minimum for him to develop to that level. That’s the problem with youth systems, a lot of players can develop to a level you need later on, say 23/24, can’t keep players from till then.

Fair chance we let O Donkor go and then he plays against us later on in his career.

I think that he has the attributes to be a very good player.
He is 19 and has plenty of time to improve.

I think that Barnet are playing him as the left man of a 3 upfront?

when he played for the academy, if memory serves, he was invariably right man of 3 up front- was putting more than a few away then (as well)
