Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

Some on here would have had Jim Smith sacked first time around after we blew a very good position when he first came in following Ian Greaves' departure mid-season. We stuck with him, thankfully.
An article in the current 'When Saturday Comes' explains that Sir Alex Ferguson's job was only saved by his 1990 FA Cup win and of course Kevin Brock saved Howard Kendall's job - and the rest for both of those gentlemen is history.

This is totally incorrect. Just look at the record of these players under Manning before the owners made the worst ever decision in football and appointed someone with absolutely no EFL or equivalent experience who is clearly out of his depth and worse still substantial compensation was paid to get him. Just why ?

I am desperately searching for the progress Steve Seddon had under Manning. I am also looking for the progress Stuart Findlay had under Manning. I don't recall much progress from Jamo or Oisin either.

The point you are trying to mark to @Steve Gilbert is not wearing well.

The worst ever decision in football? I think you will find that was James Henry passing instead of shooting at Wembley.

To be fair Des got Harris to start scoring goals and has recharged Murphy, the downside is many others look lost
He also nearly threw away a 3-0 lead in that match also. We were the width of a post from drawing 3-3.
It was also the last time we heard, you are the best team we have played. I wish I had seen those same Orient fans on Saturday and asked them, well how much have we regressed!!

Nobody thinks he's doing well. Some of us think patience may yet pay dividends. Others don't. That's basically it.

But if the same four or five posters don’t keep writing the same thing every 15 minutes how will I know they haven’t changed their minds and want him to stay? Good of them to keep me up to date.

One option is to bring in an experienced manager to work side by side with des until the end of the season. Call it a number 2 or whatever but it may just save our season and speed up des's learning curve.

And 99.9% believe he’s also not been given much of a chance by Grant & Tim unlike the support Mous has been given at Pompey & Collins at Barnsley.

That is a total guess, in fact its totally wrong did you put the decimal point in the wrong place by any chance!!. The 20 or 30 on here makes your 99.9% a bit fanciful. I accept the argument he has not the support team he needed. I totally accept he will not be going anywhere soon but if it doesn't improve soon, watching OUFC will likely become a toxic experience. The doubters camp is growing game after game, both after the game itself and the post match managerial interview, There is a significant number out there who are seriously concerned.
When I raised these arguments a couple of weeks ago, the Des poll was mentioned as a basis of high support numbers. Not even that was 99.9% by the way . If we are so certain , lets redo the poll. I think you would be quite surprised by the outcome.

Just on the coaching/analyst/fitness staff thing, in numbers terms, Des has had and does have going forward, the same amount of headline staff as his predecessors.
The obvious weakness initially was not bringing his own additions in from day one, and further down the line, there is the 'Hackett Saga' which I'm not sure we'll ever actually understand properly. Those who covered during the initial period had been around the club a long time, Hackett obviously with the youth team, and wider academy setup, and Isaac Alder who has been part of the first team analysis department for around five years.

There are other analysts/sports therapists etc who work with the squad and wider club, but you could be here a long time, reeling all of those off.

Buckingham Now

Fitness/S&C: Routledge, Peasah, Elliott, Short

Manning
Coaching: Hogg, Short, Price, (Faz)
Analysis: Krause
Fitness/S&C: Routledge, Peasah, Elliott, Short

Robinson Final Season

Recruitment: Thomas/Waldron

The ultimate question is whether that make-up of staff actually suit Des, his planned style and the way he works.
Might we see tweaks in the summer for example. Craig Short came in as Karl Robinson's man, it's quite rare to see someone in his role stick around for 3 managers.

We've already seen Routledge move on for Taylor.

Exactly this.

We need to move players on like Bodin, Long, Henry, McEachran, Seddon, Findlay, Smyth and Browne IMO and bring in much better as well get a more balanced squad before we truly judge Des. He is dealing with the fall out of 2 managers not just 1.
And Murphy - costs far too much for what he delivers

Wrong again ? What Manning was a 'wrong' appointment was he ? I suppose he could have got us top as opposed to second.
What about that eh? We f*****g nearly got relegated due to their snow blindness.

If the fan base hadn’t turned completely toxic we would be mid way through League 2 by now.
So they got that right did they? Er, no! Hanging us over the trapdoor. Manning came in and did a good job then fucked off elsewhere.

Now Buckingham May, or may not turn out to be a winner yet and I wholeheartedly hope that he succeeds but the fact is that major question marks remain over whether Tim and Grant are out of their depth. If Buckingham fails, I believe that their future at this club is untenable.

I’d actually say that Tim William’s job at this stage is untenable as is Adam Benson’s. The fan base are getting more and more toxic towards them as the weeks go by and many more little programme notes from Timmy blaming fans or Benson being a toxic presence in the club, things could turn very ugly, very quickly at this fans forum.

Des wont be going anywhere until at least the end of the season, the chuckle brothers wont phone the owners and tell them they made a bad choice unless they absolutely have to.. I would imagine whether Des is here next season will depend on how he does the rest of this season.

I do wonder if he was the easy or lazy choice, part of the Citeh group, ties with Oxford, had "success" wherever he has been. I hope he comes good but I have my doubts.

The owners went for the romantic choice and I think Des will be given this season and the start of next season, if it gets to November and we aren’t in the top 6 then I think they will pull the plug.

I will say that Des wasn’t my first choice but he is here now and after the shambles that he has had to deal with in regards to staffing and injuries then I will continue to get behind him and won’t judge him too much until the start of next season.

The shambles of being in a strong second place in the table.

Yet we were starting to tale off while the staffing structure was ripped apart and not replaced efficiently.

Even if Manning had stayed we were never going to keep up the form of the first 10 games and many pundits were saying as much. Wigan away was one of the most dull, uninspiring performances I’ve seen from an Oxford side in a long time and that was when Manning was still here.

They do change their minds all the time. Often in the same post.
They give us a list of reasons why Des should get the sack, then end it with "Oh but I'm not Des Out".

If only they were as consistent with their views on Des as they are about players such as Cumming, Henry and O'Donker.
Oh, they are.

1.16 points per game is terrible however you look at it. It wouldn't surprise me if that figure is lower by the end of the season.
