What's changed in the coaching or style of play? The same players are pretty much playing in the same positions as under Manning. The difference is that we've had other key players out, or those that we have got are knackered. McGuane hasn't suddenly been coached differently, he's just been over played because there have been no alternatives. Ciaron Brown has looked jaded recently, Elliott Moore playing with an injury. Leigh has struggled since his injury. We've had no consistency with the wide players.

If you can't see that this is down to fatigue and a weakened squad then that's on you.
You can’t be serious… 🤦‍♂️

The team is fundamentally different from how it builds up to how it attacks (or rather doesn’t).

How is it that Manning had Leigh appearing in the box scoring goals while he struggles to get beyond half way for Des? Why can’t Rodrigues get in to games anymore? I note Rodrigues wasn’t always brilliant under Manning but he was always very involved. Our wingers were fantastic under Manning, often cutting in and scoring - what about now? Are Moore and Brown as good a partnership since Manning left? The need for a DM wasn’t especially pertinent under Manning but became a glaring problem under Des - that can only be tactical. Why has Harris suddenly found regular goals? The press and our counters enabled us to beat Barnsley and Derby away in the space of a week - where’s that gone? Where’s the control of games we had more often than not under Manning?

The differences are endless and the sum of it all is we aren’t remotely as good with what is now a better group. There was a 6-8 week period where he could be completely excused through a ridiculous injury list. But it’s getting silly now just how much he is being protected when Manning showed us all what can be achieved in a short space of time.

Even with them all match fit I still feel like our squad is not quite there yet.
The following players(some awesome servants) need moving on.
They either hold us back financially and/or they are no longer good enough imo
Upgrade these and we have a promotion winning squad.

Thornily
Findlay
Seddon
Murphy
Henry
Bodin
Long
Eastwood
Odonkor

Odonker I don't agree with. I'm sure he is not on the biggest wage. Now he has gone on loan, let's see how he develops. If he does well there for the rest of the season, maybe he will be go onto a L2 club, maybe even Barnet. Just because at 19 he wasn't ready for L1, doesn't mean in a couple of years he won't be.

I personally don't think we should even be trying for promotion until at least a couple of years in the new stadium. Give us a chance to settle in for a couple of years and find our feet, let the fans find the best parking spots before the big crowds come etc.
Bollox to this, go for promotion when you can. I’ve heard this kind of shite so many times. Why wouldn’t you want promotion!!

Agreed, the squad has problems, but that doesn't excuse some of the rubbish being served up entirely.

Probably another big summer window ahead, hopefully Waldron can work some magic.
I certainly havent enjoyed that many games this season but I think it’s just where we are, in transition. No none to blame in any big way.
I blame KR, he got us in a good place and then buggered it.

I hope you’re right, I’ve not seen enough potential. He’s actually a decent footballer as far as hold up play and strength but seems to freeze when it’s time to shoot. He may come good eventually but maybe not for us I think we need to get someone in sooner

Is it the same set of players?? Really?
If it was then you'd have a good point and I would be right with you. You mentioned the injuries, and admit it’s made an impact. Now players are back you expect us to be on firing all cylinders immediately?

Err ....wingers used to cut in and score for Manning ....
Did you watch Goodrham , Murphy against Wigan or just making stuff up now ?

The question is, then why don't we just give up on developing our own players? Ok Goodrham has come good at an earlier age but it's still taken time and there is generally less pressure in that position. It's not unusual for players to develop much further in their early 20s.

If it was then you'd have a good point and I would be right with you.

It's also completely ignorant to the fact that we have players who are significantly more fatigued now than they were in August.

This blinkered thinking that injuries don't matter or that they are used as an excuse is simply wrong. The fact that so many teams around us are also struggling for form at the moment shows this isn't just an Oxford thing, or a Des Buckingham thing.

Kilmarnock drew at Celtic yesterday and Findlay played- so you never know!

We could definitely do with him getting another club other than Kilmarnock interested in him, he is on his third loan spell there on top of a permanent so they will always be interested, get another club and we can at least try to get one of them to pay a bigger chunk of his wages. It’s not going to be Rangers or Celtic but if one of Aberdeen, Hearts etc were tempted at least they might pay a fair share.

Turned into a terrible signing for us though whatever happens now.

I wonder with Findlay if it would economically be cheaper to offload Thorniley and have Findlay as third choice

Eg kilmarnocks contribution is less than Thorniley wage?

You have to get someone to take Thorniley, which won’t be easy.

He would be fourth choice not third though, Brown, Moore, Negru then Thorniley/Findlay. If Findlay plays you have to accept that you can’t use him to knock the ball about at the back, the bloke can’t pass.

If we didnt have the KR legacy and none of the 11 odd injuries for all those weeks then I’d def be asking questions about the performances

He's scored 2 goals in 2 games since going out on loan. Too early to be writing him off.

Derby won one game in the record disaster season in the premier league - do you think that was enough to distract the fans from the fact they probably ought to have won more often??? How are we so easily blinded by singular incidents.

Heard this yesterday. Oh Sam Long played a good pass in an otherwise horrific display. Ok then nevermind!!!

We’ve just had someone claim that Des’ Oxford United team is basically the same as Manning’s only Des has had a tougher time with selection. Give me a break. We’re a shadow of that side and now have better players!! Mental statement.

What ARE you talking about? Des had 11 players injured throughout the time he’s been here until about a week or two ago.

Have you considered just chilling out a little? We're a club still very much in transition, yet we find ourself 6th and a decent chance of making the playoffs after barely surviving a relegation battle last year.

Yet you post on here several times during a match and the hours after to say how awful players x and y were and how we're not good enough. And describing anyone who has a different view to you as mental.

Maybe if you relaxed a little you might find far more enjoyment from the games or a little more hope that things will improve. Because at the moment you seem to be dedicating an awful lot of time around something that seems to make you very angry.
