Why do the results "speak for themselves"? You're not comparing like with like. Oxford are clearly better with a fit Greg Leigh for example. As events at Bristol City show there are considerable difficulties for a new coach having to take on another team suddenly in the middle of the season especially hen the team has been doing relatively well and morale isn't rock bottom.

Bit of a weird thing to get so upset about to be honest, I added a poll to get a clearer view of where people stand on the Des debate, plenty have voted, and I have no plans on removing it just because 1 person (who also voted in it) doesn't see or like the point of it

I voted “ till the end of the season’. He has signed players and has several coming back from injury. He keeps blaming a shortage of players, if he can’t get some consistent pattern of play and get his style, whatever it is by the end of the season. Then he is not the right man. We all get it, there have been a massive list of injuries, but I for one can’t see how is is trying to set up, seems to me the players are baffled as well. He was not my choice, but I really do hope 100% that he can turn things around. If we don’t go up, I’ll obviously not hold it against him, I just want to see something organised each week and a bit of ‘ bite’ about him in the technical area. Otherwise he might as well sit in the stand with a mobile.

Yesterday's interview of him reminding us how players were out really rubbed me up the wrong way, he's just had a full transfer window, and looks to have been well supported, he says it's not an excuse, but it sure sounds like one when you wheel it out after every poor performance and/or loss.
That being said, I do want to give him the benefit of the doubt and have accepted that this season might not be as good as it initially looked. If we start next season looking as lost as we have recently though it won't take long for serious questions about his ability to be raised
Since the Manning comparisons are continuing and people suggest Des has had a crap hand, it’s probably worth reflecting on what Manning walked in to.
A team with no win in 10 games, 9 of them losses. If memory serves me right we had injury issues then as well but it was a dreadful squad with only really one credible option in most positions and some players among the worst statistically in their position in the league.
We drew his first 4 games and while it wasn’t pretty, he quickly arrested a rot and we at least accumulated points and stopped giving them away. Added to that we found discipline, a togetherness and a shape almost overnight.
One thing going for Manning was that he could ride the wave of Robinson being gone. It united the club for the run-in but the rest he did himself. Des by comparison picked up a very different dressing room challenge.
Both Des and Manning picked up a challenging job for different reasons but Manning exhausted the potential of the club at each stage of his tenure. Des has a lot to do to rival that.

I've voted that he needs at least the summer window, but if there had been an option that said something along the lines of:
'Yes, but he needs backing properly. Move Grant and Tim on and replace them with some proper football people' then I would have voted that instead.
They are a way bigger problem.

Manning came to a club in freefall where some underperforming but talented players had been managed by someone who was behaving very strangely
He then had a summer to work with the players, and bring in some he knew well- like Josh maceachran. He also had a cahcne to get to know the inner workings of the club.
Des Came in to a club which if anything had been overperforming- was going through an injury crisis and was still. dysfunctional at senior level, and had just lost its entire coaching team

Totally agree. I'm most disappointed that the mods haven't expanded the poll to include the options that the Management Team (Senior Division) could have um opted for e.g.: get DoF, help find assistant, not fire support staff, listen, engage etc.

It’s fair enough to debate and have a poll but since he’s not going to be sacked any time soon it could be a bit tedious having months of pro Des and anti Des bickering.

Needs to be given a summer window where he gets the crocks off the books such as Murphy,Henry,Bodin & Browne. I’d give him next season in fact. No point in changing things mid season unless it goes completely disastrously.

Spot on. Cracks were beginning to show. XG showed us to be midtable. At a guess that’s where we will finish up. Then the real work begins in the summer window with Des being able to get 4/5 players off the books.

And that position was incredibly false, I personally called it even then that we would drop off. The same players that suffer injuries every season then got injured on top of a few others and s**t hit the fan. Let’s no pretend we were winning games at a canter when we were second. We got lucky. Unsustainable over a season.
You’re right, but we’re a week out of the window.
But Des still has how many games does he say left. to prove the last so many games have only been affected by lack of selection.
Judgement should wait for the moment.
I’m prepared for him to stay long term. I think discussing anything else is a waste of time right now because the board wouldn’t sack him even if we lost every remaining game. Too expensive and we wouldn’t go down and their focus has never been and will never be the football.
I am sure there is an excellent coach there and he is learning. I can see improvements in Saturday’s performance to his first few. But his instincts don’t seem good this far and the education seems to be taking too long to expect much now. It’s about next season, not just for Des but for the squad changes too. He can’t have any excuses beyond this summer window because its not been far off a blank canvas since Jan 1st.
