is it possible that 'they' may have been coming in but before the contract was signed, they reached out to a player at the club and said "I'm thinking of taking the assistant manager role under Des" and the reply was met with enough concerns to worry whoever 'they' were? Are we absolutely sure that Des’ preferred choice of assistant didn’t come due to wages?
Or could it be that he decided he didn’t want to work with Des as he hadn’t persuaded him about his own credentials and ability?
Matete played a key part in promoted teams from this division the last two seasons. I’d suggest he possibly isn’t terrible and there’s other factors at play. You are joking Matete is terrible. Or really doesn’t want to be here.
Burey has been frozen out for reasons other than football because he was playing okay until he went bye bye
Negru I’d agree with but he has been off his game under DesB too.
Give the job to Craig short? You mean the same Craig short who was here under Robinson? The same Craig short all the players are mates with? Whole staff needs gutting. Des isn’t good enough currently but he’s brought in next to no one who can support him. Compare that to the backroom team manning had, Des has been left with Robinson’s rejects and none of his own people. The seasons over, even if by some MIRACLE, we managed to sneak the playoffs and go up, we’d be cannon fodder in the Championship, and would come straight back down, having done more harm than good.
We’re a complete mess on the pitch.
Give the job to Craig Short for the rest of the season, and let him steady the ship, again.
At least we showed spirit, togetherness and camaraderie under Short, and we could at least salvage a bit of positivity going into the summer, ready for a new manager, back room team, and a new squad.
But Des needs to go now, he’s an amateur apprentice, at best.
I’d suggest he can’t be bothered, he doesn’t even look interested in the interviews I’ve seenMatete played a key part in promoted teams from this division the last two seasons. I’d suggest he possibly isn’t terrible and there’s other factors at play.
Director of Football. And this is the truth of it all, sadly. So long as the club has a bean counter as CEO and a more or less absent board, footballing decision making of this magnitude will get postponed. We saw it with Robinson. The mere thought of how the balance sheet will look after sacking one manager and attracting the services of another will have twitchy bottoms running for cover.
The only hope is that the marketing side show some disquiet at dropping attendances and slow season ticket sales. The latter, of course, won't happen until it's clear we won't get promoted (don't laugh, they're all still buttocks clenched that it will save their reputations) Once mathmatically impossible, the penny will drop, literally, and pricing next season will look a lot less attractive.
How about the coaching staff beneath that? All here and remnants of robbo’s reign. Absolute hangers on, Short & the like. Players all too comfortable with all of them & know they can get away with it as the coaching staff have favourites. The whole squad needs gutting virtually, we get that chance in the summer with a fair few players, but so does the coaching staff, it’s stale, old and full of people who are there to just collect a wage and not take any responsibility. What is he having to deal with? Gets well paid, a decent squad of players, money spent in January, his own analyst, a brilliant training facility.
The assistant situation, yep, that’s s**t. Does it justify sending players out with terrible tactical plans? I don’t think so.
Ask the club and the same response comes back, "we don't need one". Blinkered, and dare I say, arrogant?Director of Football.
Exactly why they won’t do f**k all then tbh.It would be extremely damaging for the club at a crucial time to retain Des.
Strong, swift and decisive leadership from the board is needed.
Well having seen Tim Williams & his work so far I’d say being arrogant is one of his top qualities. All good football clubs have one or something similar. The players on the recruitment list in January were all manning signings that were agreed while he was here, Goodwin included. We didn’t change tack in January & give Buckingham free rein. We had already decided who we wanted, regardless of whether they suited what Des wanted or if in fact he wanted them at allAsk the club and the same response comes back, "we don't need one". Or maybe they’ve just got the wrong people spending it.I think you’re wrong in this, Danny. The £6m per season they’re ploughing in to keep us afloat and a budget far in excess of our natural revenues suggests to me that they’re determined to get promoted as soon as they can. If anything, Championship level football would only enhance the case for the new stadium.
If they were content at L1, they really could save themselves bundles of cash to maintain the status quo.
DB can talk the talk. LM could walk the walk.
Peterborough United have proven how effective and essential the position has been - they've probably made £50m in 10 years with their transfer model and experienced promotions to the Championship whilst retaining a strong squad. Barry Fry and his associates have done a remarkable job over the years and it has eased the burdens placed on the manager(s)Ask the club and the same response comes back, "we don't need one". All very good, but will Timmy's spreadsheet allow itIdeal time for the club to carry out some real research into the position of Head Coach. Approach the best, get an idea of what they will want/need in terms of staff and get things ready for the season end. Have a plan ready. Clearly we are not going up, or down so make a list. Look at contracts. Certainly, regardless of league position, some of the playing staff are surplus to requirements. Some are out of contract come the summer so not even bother with negotiations unless they are really showing that they want to perform. Time to be seen to be reacting. Time for consequences.
I just don't believe that any of the owners are happy throwing money at the club without checks and measures.

I'm pretty sure, yes.Are we absolutely sure that Des’ preferred choice of assistant didn’t come due to wages?
He was recommended by someone he has worked with before who knows Des very well, the manager wasn't an issue with this. Offering him a huge paycut was.Or could it be that he decided he didn’t want to work with Des as he hadn’t persuaded him about his own credentials and ability?
