Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

Like I said, teams had started to work us out. In Manning's last six L1 games, we got 10 points. In Buckingham's last six L1 games, we have got 9 points....we're a decent team. But not that good. Yet.
Pretty sure we got 11 points from his last 6 games, 3 wins, 2 draws, loss to Wigan. That ppg gives 84 over a season. If that's his bad spell, then he's doing a good job!

It's probably just me but I can't help thinking you're loving this, you seem to thrive on perceived failure. And for the record no I'm not happy with the way things are going either but chris you take the biscuit!
Yep, an Oxford fan of 30 years loving us crashing and burning out of the playoff places. LOVING it.

How can anyone say we are a decent team? In what area are we strong?
For a while under Manning I did think we were a decent side. In hindsight maybe we were punching above our weight.

McGuane started the season strong. Brannagan is a good player. Sparky looked promising early doors. Greg Leigh and Kyle Edwards were looking good, Mills was raw and promising.

It all fell apart but at one point I felt quite confident we were a decent team.
But I take the point that right now we are far from one. It's so frustrating and big kudos to fans who go on Tuesday

I’ll be going on Tuesday but only because I’ve got a season ticket. I’ve totally lost all enthusiasm and that’s without taking the recent results into consideration. The football we are now playing is so poor. There no drive or passion. Nothing to get you off your seat. It’s all so stagnant.

Something needs to change and quick but I don’t see anything happening. We look rudderless. There’s no leadership. I think Tim and Grant have both basically up sticks and left Des to it. Des in turn is looking out of his depth and the hammering he’s now getting on all the socials is making me feel sorry for him.

I can see things turning quite ugly in the next couple of weeks. I’ve got a bad feeling that Pompey might ‘tear us a new one’ on Tuesday night. At the moment we are there for the taking for any half decent team.

This is a valid point, I can't remember the last time I really enjoyed watching us and how we play. Maybe Burton?
At the moment it's slow, ponderous, unadventurous...just plain dull to watch us. It was dull watching Ian Atkins manage as well, but at least we were set up well.

Exactly this, not only are we playing some really dull football at the moment our shape and tactics are all over the place.

Des and co can't keep blaming injuries and lack of depth in the squad. A good manager would of atleast made us harder to beat aka Manning when he came in last season.

I'm going to say this now as I said with Karl. Des Buckingham will not bring success to OUFC whilst he has a hole in his A*****e.

He is tactically inept. I am not sure what he coaches day to day. The players clearly don't believe in the methods.

I want him to succeed. He's not got it. We've fucked up. He's a caretaker til we get someone who knows what they're doing.

If he wasn't from Oxford we would be thinking we'd appointed a complete turnip.
This gives me hope as we all now how good your predictions are!

Des’s start is a bit like Appleton, fans moaning about no obvious style of play, we aren’t good enough etc, then look what happened.

Des has succeeded everywhere he has been so far and I don’t see any reason to doubt him after just a few games with a squad of players that aren’t his and have hit by injuries.

I think by the end of this window and next we will see a much different squad and also the true way of how a Des team likes to play.

Under no circumstances am I suggesting we sack Des - but the drop off in performances, identity, patterns of play are clear to see. Play offs as it stands look unlikely now - he has until the end of the season to turn it round (if he does playoff still doable) then we must re-evaluate.

Like others have already said it’s a shame as this seasons league one is weaker than usual. It is (was) a great opportunity to go a get promotion.

Typical response from the ever positive band wagon. You and Scotchegg both the same, or your heads are in the sand.

Wasn't just TW & GF who got it wrong. Think I voted for Williams purely based on his reputation for very attacking football.

I was happy when Des came and he talked an OK game but on the pitch its been diabolical.

Ed and Faz also in the mix

To be fair a turnip got to manage England.

I also voted Luke Williams as I thought that he'd be the most natural fit with the team. However that doesn't mean that I don't want to see Des Buckingham given a chance to get things right.

Let's not forget that there were people saying that Manning had to go at half time to Carlisle at the beginning of the season. And we had 90% of the forum saying that Appleton should go for most of his first season.

A year ago these same posters were saying that it would take years to undo the mess we were in. Several players on big contracts but barely playing, and few actually saleable assets. We made a decent start in addressing some of that in the summer, and we're chipping away at doing the same now. January is always difficult, but Burey looks decent and Goodwin will be worth waiting for. Of course we should have had more in by now, but I don't think that's down to a lack of trying, or finances, or because Buckingham is such a bad guy and has lost the dressing room!

Football is am emotional game and I try to stay away from here on the night of a defeat when there's so much venting going on. But I am still willing to give Des time to turn things around, and that hopefully starts by dropping the 3 at the back that hasn't worked for any manager.

But if we expect 100% from the manager and others, then I think that we also need to give 100% ourselves. Some saying that they won't bother going on Tuesday is something I just don't get. We need to turn up in numbers and make our support clear from the off. Customers give up, supporters stick together even when things are difficult.

But we are 'customers' aren't we?

I'll admit, I don't feel much like going on Tuesday. Finish work early, drive 55 miles, sit muttering for 2 hours (joke!), drive 55 miles home and go to bed at about 11.45 before getting up to make up the time I missed the day before. That's my choice to do it of course and fine when (win or lose) the football is entertaining and I feel my club has made a decent attempt at winning the game, but when it is so flat?

I *will* end up going of course, but blimey it feels more like a duty than a pleasure at the moment.

He needs to be given to the end of next season to be judged.
At the end of the day ,this downfall this season, was started - caused by Manning.
Let him have a fresh new start , not this jumping in, & trying to , sort injuries, & backroom staff ,etc etc.
If he goes we're going to end up , like a tinpot club that keeps sacking the manager every few months .
Where's the stability in that . NONE !!!!!
We all know the injuries are not his, the dead wood are not his.
Let's have some f***""g loyalty he's one of our own.
That's the problem nowadays we ,us as a fan base have gone to the dogs& it shows...
