A good chunk of the season has past and you are still in the conversation for automatic promotion.

History suggests it is a 3 horse race now for the top 2 positions. Neither Barnsley or Peterborough have show any ability to get to 2 points per game. I predict the top 3 will slowly edge away from the chasing pack.

It may well come down to who has the best January transfer window and whose squad is the deepest.

It is going to be a thrilling season for you so try and enjoy it!

I think it's anything but a three horse race. Peterborough, Barnsley, Blackpool and even Derby will all be in the mix.

Portsmouth are in great form, and sneaking last minute winners and coming from behind in games. But they will have a dip at some point and it will be how they react to that. We've had a dip, and hopefully a win on Tuesday will get us back on track.

Bolton had a bad defeat to Carlisle bit have otherwise won 5 of their last 6. Peterborough are unbeaten in 9, and Barnsley are beginning to get a bit of consistency, although draws against Fleetwood and Leyton Orient are dropped points.

Blackpool and Derby are both teams that just haven't clicked yet. But both have the potential to put a string of results together and get right back into the promotion race.

The most important thing is that Oxford are right in there still, despite injuries and suspensions and a few struggling with form. We have seen what this team can do when firing on all cylinders, and will have the opportunity to strengthen further in January. We're in a good place, but no one should be counting chickens just yet.

2 points from the last 9 - we’ve either had a dip, or we’re currently having a dip. Lose or draw on Tuesday and it’s 2 from 12 or 3 from 12.

Need to get back to attacking football and winning ways.

Which was the point I made!

Every season there's a team that makes a fast start but then fades away a bit, this season it may well be us unfortunately.

Very often a struggling team , in the bottom half of the table ,goes on a terrific run after Christmas & sneaks in there as well ...

No there isn't! This is a urban myth :)

Last season Plymouth, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday dominated the league and Wednesday's failure to invest in the January window arguably cost them their automatic promotion place.

You're having a dip at the moment and you are still in the top two. Everyone has dips but the Barnsley's of this world haven't taken advantage of your dip. They are now going to have to have a great run while you continue to stumble...and you won't.

From the outside looking in you are in a great position. Obviously, being a football fan you only see the problems! Try to enjoy the year :)

I'm trying to work out if this thread is a wind up I mean we've played 14 games there is no way it's a 3 horse race now it's to early to be thinking like that imo

Agree. Pompey are sneaking a lot of games and will lose some of them.

Tosh. It’s not even November.
Presumably you are just promoting your website?

Portsmouth are looking solid when you look at the stats for games they are creating alot of chances, Bolton are quietly up there, Peterborough, Barnsley, Blackpool looked dangerous the other week I still think Derby will be up there and hopefully us .We look the least likely at the minute .So thats 7 for the top 6 places ,there's along way to go with alot of twists and turns and alot of points to play for .I think Portsmouth will get over 90 points and Peterborough will be second Ferguson has done it before and he doesn't feel like they have got going yet. We are in a great position but let's see what's happens Tuesday night at Lincoln. Its one of those places we go and lose at along way north not many away fans ,please prove me wrong.

There’s 3 points between us in second and Stevenage in sixth, how is it a three horse race?

At the moment we aren’t even play off contenders but if we invest in the new year then we might be in with a shout for a play off place, @OX14 told me 😉

From the previous 3 games we have picked up 2 points. That isn't play off form.

From the last block of 6 we have picked up 11. Almost 2 points a game. If we continue that over a season we would get 80+ points & personally I think this season 85 will get you 2nd place.

We have played 14 games out of a total of 46! It’s ridiculous at this stage to say it’s already a 3 horse race.

That's the problem its IF we continue that over the season, it's no guarantee.
