National News Covidiots.....

Not sure if this is the right thread, as I am not sure whether I am a Covidiot or not for not understanding this, but...

Boris Johnson is urging people to 'go to the cinema'. Can anyone explain to me how sitting indoors for a couple of hours in an enclosed cinema is safer than sitting outdoors for a couple of hours in an open air football stadium?

ZtH - Don't try to understand it, you will spin around so much that you will disappear up your own b*tthole

It is the Govt's usual contradictory approach and before long will blame cinema-goers for the number of cases.

Especially difficult now that the majority of venues are having to close their doors.

Does he expect people to break in?

It's the science. Yes, science is what explains it. It's what the scientists say.

Be fearless, but use common sense. Common sense fearlessness - it’s a perfectly well-known phrase! Forget that to be fearless by its very definition means that you are completely without fear, and therefore should apply no form of brake to anything that you do. It’s not a problem with the language or the messaging, it’s just that people are all idiots. Despite the fact that if that were the case it would make us the idiots for continually leaving it up to people to make their own decisions, while simultaneously saying contradictory things and being unable to explain our own guidelines when questioned, to the point that we’re constantly saying we don’t know, are ‘misspeaking’ and are having to publish clarifications on social media as a result. Don’t you get it? This is simple stuff! You must be one of those idiots who we keep telling to use their common sense, which we also know they don’t have.

Just make sure that while you’re being fearlessly commonsensical, you don’t behave like those selfish sods who kept going out. Just because we quite literally said it was their duty to go to the pub and gave them discounts so that they could keep going to restaurants, and said it was time to go back to the office and pack the kids off to uni right as cases began to rise again, doesn’t mean we actually wanted them to do any of those things. Now look what they’ve done! They’ve ruined it all!

Honestly, I don’t understand what’s so difficult about this. It’s all been clear as day since the start.

As on t`other thread................

So children can go to school in their "bubble" on a Friday........ and see the same kids on Monday.
However do it on a weekend its a 10k fine..................................................

That is the problem with how it is being "soft managed" in a far to flexible and conflicting manner.

The logic presumably is that schools have better measures to sanitize, clean, and keep space than a private household.
It's not just a binary 1 and 0 for safe which some people seem incapable of understanding.

I was talking with friends yesterday and even the staunchest labour supporter out there could see there was a raft of difference between Cummings driving in his own car to a family residence in Northumberland, and the SNP MP travelling to London on a train for several hours whilst waiting for a test result, and then travelling back again having tested positive.

Yep, I would say it is about balancing risks and making the right judgement as, hopefully, the parents should do in the party case.
Child wants friends round for their birthday, same friends they go to school & knock about with isn`t greatly increasing the risk, unless all the respective parents & grandparents turned up as well....... sadly the report lacks detail as to how many "over 6 it was".
Interesting to also note the police using the past tense as though they turned up after everyone had gone anyway?
Which leads me to think I that they were supposed to "educate & advise" (don`t do it again) before enforcing with a FPN?

There is, of course.
But it's the difference between 'stupid' and 'even stupider' - the complete idiocy of the SNP MP in no makes Cumming's silly jaunt any more excusable.

Notably the government who seem to insist on binary actions as evidenced!

Tend to agree with the 2nd paragraph mind.

Mmm. Of course, one of them broke the rules that have been set while the other was one of the people who set them to begin with, making them infinitely more influential, who then carried on lying about it even after they were caught. Which happened during a period when the entire country was playing ball and trying to protect their loved ones as well as themselves, and which coincidentally began to fall apart right after it came to light that they’d told us to stick it up our bums. One of them immediately lost the whip and was told in no uncertain terms to resign in the firmest way possible, while the other had bulletproof glass put around them as the nation was essentially told, “You just don’t care about your family as much as this hero does - any responsible person would have done the same.” Despite the fact that many of us couldn’t even see our families at all, in absolutely any capacity, let alone drive them to the other end of the country. And while one of them directly put people in danger, physically - which is wholly unacceptable - the other one encouraged many times more people to down tools and sack it all off, thus endangering significantly more people overall.

Still. It’s good that people can see that what one of them did wasn’t as damaging or dangerous as what the other did. Thankfully they’ve both been firmly punished.

Is the guidance still that once you’ve socialised/been in a group of six then that’s your lot for the day? I seem to recall initially one of the government advisors (might have been JVT) saying that you should only socialise with up to six people outside of your household in the course of the day.

I only ask because I know of a few birthday parties that have been run like a restaurant with “sittings” so that all of the friends can come round. I’m not overly bothered either way but it just goes to show how there really are many, many shades to the rules.

Genuine question.... if my one year old son and the Mrs are upstairs in bed but I’ve got five friends in the garden for a few beers, have I now exceeded the rule of six?

Applies to “groups of six“ meeting at any one time as far as I can tell.

There are exceptions if you google .gov.uk

It does also say try to limit the number of people you see over a short period time....
