Ref Watch +++ 13/07/20 L1 Play Off FINAL - OUFC v Wycombe+++

We didn’t play well in all 3 playoff games in all honesty, Eastwood I have a feeling hasn’t been the same since his injury and don’t get me started on Marcus Browne, for the 2nd leg against Pompey and against Wycombe, he didn’t look interested and wasn’t even challenging for the ball at some points, should of been hauled off way before he was in the game tonight IMO. It has been a great season for us in general but so disappointing to fall at the final hurdle and to play so poorly as well. I think some of this players will live to regret not grabbing the bull by the horns and taking advantage. I have to say well done to Robinson in general this season but at times we are so one dimensional and our formation isolates Taylor upfront and did so for all 3 games in the playoffs. I thought when Kelly game on we looked so much better last night. Disappointing but we will go again and OUFC will always be our club. Whatever happens.

Some of the comments here are really quite disgraceful, call yourselves supporters ? I can see it all going Pete Tong next season with that sort of attitude being displayed. Learn to accept defeat gracefully. Especially after the season we’ve just had.

Wycombe were extremely fortunate, thought some of our football in second half was excellent. We are not a big team and we got stifled,. Certain players had mares It happens.

One deflected header and a gift penalty. Henry makes a bad decision. That’s football., you have to take it on the chin.

We scraped home in the semis, we got mugged in the final. Fine margins in a very competitive league.

I didn’t see any complacency from our supporters leading up to game either.

Robinson spoke well afterwards , dignified. Unlike Akinfenwa, what a charmless oik. Embarrassing.

Have to say in the second half Wycombe were pure Plough Lane Wimbledon. Just booting it down the pitch. But it was just enough to see us off.

I can see them getting lowest number of points ever in Championship Not sour grapes, just being realistic.

Well done Wycombe. Some story.

COYY

Unfortunately Wycombe will trouser the 5 million in Champ money. Id say we have more to worry about. Perhaps the joys of regional football. Weve really blown it today.
Still a couple of months to go before the season starts and they’ve already let a lot of these r back room staff go as they couldn’t afford their wages, So who knows what might happen

No complaints. The playoffs are a lottery at the best of times, much more so after a three month gap. For all our possession we really didn't create enough and our goal was lucky. A fantastic season overall, well beyond expectations and with some great moments. I imagine Brannigan and Dickie will be gone and we'll build again. Hopefully KR will stick around. COYY.

i'd argue that if Browne chased it down the defender would not have done what he did.

What, an aimless hoof forward that an under 10s side could have dealt with easily? From that punt to the penalty kick they don’t touch the ball, just needed Eastwood to keep his mouth shut and Moore to clear it, that was the way to deal with the most basic of situations.

We conceded a terrible goal to lose that final to a side that did nothing all game, that’s what really hurts.

Absolutely gutted. Not by failure to win promotion but by how we failed and what it might mean for our team.
The first goal WTF! If Ruffles actually challenges does he get a free header? It comes off Eastwood and some how ends up in the back of the net. Jammy gits!
I suppose you could say our first was jammy too. But we bossed the second half. Eastwoods first proper save was in the 95th minute. If Wycombe play that way in the championship they’re going to get done every week.
Why doesn’t Henry just slot home his one on one or at least try? What was he thinking? Who knows?
I am worried about what it means for the team with KR comments about the only way we can stay together as a team is promotion.
Normally the next day I feel better but not today. Just think we could play them every week and they’d only win the odd match.

It’s one thing to lose when an opponent blasts a 25 yarder in the top corner (a la Josh Ruffles v Wycombe last year); its quite another to lose like that - completely against the run of play and in the most preventable way imaginable against a team that time wasted from the 10th minute onwards and had 5 shots in 90 minutes. The hard part was equalising; once we had done that, Wycombe were on the rack and the only way they were ever going to score again was a set piece or a mistake, or, as it happens, both. We weren’t beaten by a better team or by a moment of magic; we beat ourselves and gifted away a golden chance for promotion. That’s why it hurts so much and why it will take a long, long time to get over this one.

Absolutely sums up my feelings... felt the hard part was getting the goal back but once that happened I could only see one team winning.

Everything felt set for a glorious victory but then a mixture of poor decisions, some good goal keeping and crucial blocks by their defender and it’s snatched away.

I still can’t believe we haven’t won that.

I can confirm a nights sleep doesnt make it feel better.

If there is a football god it is definitly a wycombe fan

Shouldnt have been in the playoffs

Fleetwoods keeper gifts them 3 goals

Eastwood gifts them 2 goals.

Cant beat fate.

My thoughts after sleeping on it.

An awful game to lose, so close to promotion and then we blow it like that (and blow it is absolutely the right term, given the ten or fifteen minutes after the goal).
Over the three games we were never in the lead, we can hardly complain about our lot. And two of the three goals we scored were complete flukes. If you leave your money on red, sooner or later the roulette wheel will come up black.
Yesterday, I would say too many players had bang average games. Not poor (Eastwood, Ruffels excepted...they won't look back on yesterday fondly), not "not at the races", but average. Sykes the shining light, Kelly with flashes after he came on, Dickie solid.
When Henry plays well, Oxford play well...so they say. Never a truer word. Why on earth he didn't shoot only he knows.
Eastwood, as above, three shaky games (penalty save aside).

Wycombe were set up well and didn't really have to do much. 71% possession in first half but were they ever truly stretched. Jacobson supposed to be the weak link, didn't look that way to me. Grimmer kept the wingers quiet, and Stewart...what a game he had. Onyedinma also a good player. A very, very good save from that Dickie header by the keeper as well.

Ref was fine, by and large.

We would have taken a playoff final at the start of the season I am sure. Losing like that hurts like hell and will for a while, but we have to try and remember where we were pre-corona and get off to the best start possible.

A gutted COYY to all.

Thanks to all at OUFC for such a wonderful season, so many high moments to be a part of. The last game is a shame but we got what deserved, so no complaints from me at all. Can only reflect on what could have been.

Well done to Wycombe, they took their chances when we did not. There is a lesson there for our players

to be fair they actually didn’t create any proper chances.

Yesterday felt a bit like that e-mail you sometimes get from the Lottery saying they have good news about your ticket.

You wait all day without logging in because you want to enjoy the dream and anticipation of a huge win.

Come 9.15pm you log in and experience that massive feeling of deflation because you only won a tenner.

to be fair they actually didn’t create any proper chances.

Indeed.... but in all fairness our goal against Portsmouth wasn’t particularly different to theirs.

You win some, you lose some.

Gutted and still struggling to understand how we blew it.

A superb summary.

Well sleeping on it hasn't made me forget. What a missed opportunity. On another day we would of buried them chances and not made them mistakes. Now the board need to give KR what he needs to build around the best of this team. Are main problem all season has been not enough back up players. Aslong as the team doesn't get stripped all together we could challenge again next season. Now would be a good time for the board to come out and say about the stadium (it is the end of the season now after all).

I really feel for James Henry. He struggled right through the playoffs and I'm sure that his decision not to take the shot reflected his resulting lack of confidence.

We have to remember that without his tremendous contribution through the whole season we would never have been at Wembley yesterday.

Just hope that he can bounce back strongly next season.

The final result and goals scored?

That doesn’t mean they were the better team.

We made two costly errors. First one from the corner by Ruffels and Eastwood, the second by Moore (mainly) and Eastwood. Other than that we bossed the game. Why Henry didn’t shoot when through on goal is beyond me. Score that and there was only one winner.

Having said that, believe what you want to believe.
