National News Official 2019 General Election Thread

Never seen someone so unpopular be so popular.
Mmm, that really says what Labour have so wrong.
Rallies like that will not kick out the Tories. It's not about Corbyn's supporters going out on rallies.
Its about the majority in the Country voting labour (or more accuralely enough to give him a majority of seats)
Until they remember that ( which they has to accept under Kinnock and then Blair was elected), they will remain in the political wilderness (despite facing a really awful alternative main party)

There was an interesting piece on Newsnight last night about the photo of the boy on the hospital floor. The question was regarding the fact that Labour are supposedly putting the NHS right at the heart of this election campaign but Corbyn hasn't visited one hospital. Nor can I recall seeing a Labour frontbencher doing this either?

Surely their key message should have been to put in everyone's minds, every day, that the NHS is in safe hands with them? The campaign has been too safe, playing to their core support but not doing enough to bring in new voters.

The fact that Johnson has ducked numerous tv debates and interviews should have given Corbyn an open goal, but these opportunities have been lost. We're not going to see a Tory landslide like some were predicting, but I still think that they're on course to pick up a relatively healthy working majority when this really should be Labour's for the taking.

Anyone working for the NHS over the last 9 years of cuts & wage freezes will surely already be voting Labour unless they at a Tory to the core. Also the buffoon's visiting hospitals can only increase the Labour vote.

Not so long ago I stopped voting Tory because of the situation with pay and investment in the NHS and other areas of public service however, I could never vote for a party that 1. Is lead by Corbyn, and, 2. Has policies that just cannot be funded without huge tax rises (and not just for "the rich")

That was really embarrassing. He clearly didn't want to acknowledge that particular circumstance, and doubtless will claim it's a rarity, the NHS is safe in Tory hands and funded better than ever before. Oh, and let's get Brexit done. Keep going @Sarge. Not sure how many people are reading your links, but while you still have limbs to be severed, keep going.

This was fake news at best and it was probably staged. Apparently the kid started off in a chair and was moved to the floor by his mother as he was not comfortable.
He had flue was given antibiotics and sent home. In other words he should not have been there in the first place he should have been taken to his GP. People like this are part of the problem. As for fake news have they not heard of Isaac Newton, drips work by gravity they don't work if they are lying on the floor.

As previously stated, should have concentrated on righting the effects of austerity and forgone the big state power grab until the second term .

Oh yeah! It's sooooo fake the Tory party and the hospital apologised for it. Give us a break.

Rightly or wrongly people will go to A&E when they have to wait 6 weeks to see a GP.

One alternative is to call 111, they can make decisions on the course of action/treatment and also contact out of hours GP service or ambulance service.
Personally, I have never waited 6 weeks to see a GP. Not saying there are areas where this might not be the case but, for a child?

Oh I agree re 111.

And yes, you would hope not a 6 week delay for a child!

The point about A&E cluttering up with people who might be better served by a GP still stands though - whether the wait is 1 week or 6.

Surely the drip would still work if the person was lying on the floor as long as the bag was above them? What’s the difference between lying on the floor or a bed when it comes to a drip??

This is wrong, as you can see here. This is a disinformation campaign by the Tories to hide this.

Ashworth , (was he a Blairite, I can't remember ) seems like a decent bloke, which actually makes this expose this morning even more damning. He clearly despises Corbyn. Considering the bloke is Shadow Health Secretary just about puts the tin hat on it. I know the Corby cult will still remain on side but how can anyone with any floating vote pretensions go for Labour?

Tonights U30's QT election special (BBC1 early eve)could give a better 'guide' than any poll or political pundit can to the possible outcome of Thursday's GE ... Its specifically for U30s, notoriously apathetic when it comes to voting, however since Brexit referendum there a plethora of younger voters registered, even more in the run in to this GE, the U30s vote IMO could well hold the key to the GE outcome

Well it actually confirmed to me that the Tories are on course Sarge

Thought it was a decent quality programme but the 7 sided debate always risks turning into a bun fight. Rayner should be put up for TV much more and was Ok while Swinson was again terrible, (Lib Dems just love to preach don't they), Farage was just er Farage. The ScotNat seemed like a nasty piece of work to me; that lot always seem to be dour and humourless, Impressed with Jenrick, he was calm and unflustered and I hope he gets promoted in the next Conservative cabinet. The Welsh Nat and the Green was Ok as well but they'll always realistically struggle for attention .

Like Emma Barnett, she's sharp.

As opposed to the man who is so bereft of a plan, let alone the wit to defend it, that he refuses to face Andrew Neil?

As opposed to the serial opportunist without a belief in his being?

How could anyone with any floating vote pretensions go for the Conservatives?

I've listened to the interview and while he can (hopelessly) claim it was "banter", it really sounds like a frustrated parliamentary candidate venting about his parties issues on the ground and the Leader to a friend in politics.

Part of me suspects he ok'd it to be leaked so he can be far away from the mess if it goes how he suspects it might.

So how in the hell are Corbyn and the Labour party not walking this election?

I see the lady whose son was splashed on the front page of the Mirror has complained to the PCC about the story being politicised when she asked it not to be.

Because the alternative Government are run by a bunch of Marxists. Ask Ashworth.

It's about putting the NHS in the consciousness of every voter, without relying on a few photos of kids sleeping in A&E (which sadly could happen under any Government). The Brexit argument was lost, and Corbyn has looked weak. But he should have really pushed the domestic agenda by assigning key figures to deal with Brexit while he focuses on everything that has been ignored for the last few years. Corbyn should have played the role as the saviour of the NHS, but he has failed to really push any clear commitments other than to say that Johnson will sell the NHS and he won't. Labour should have been driving home the message about better social care, reducing waiting times etc and not just in wishy washy statements but a clear message over and over again.
