FA Cup FA Cup 2024/2025

Why can't we just cut to the chase and award a 1-0 win to the bigger team, and give plaudits to the "minnow" for a gallant defeat. We could all spend the day chilling instead of having the stress of football.

Or better still just draw 2 Premier League 'top 6' teams out of the hat in January and call that the final, save months of faffing about.

I think ties should be decided by the kit men from each team playing rock paper scissors.

Everyone saying that this will hurt the smaller clubs - do you mean that if you manage to hold a bigger side to a draw at home you miss out on a big payday in an away replay at a large ground?

If that is why then isn’t there an argument that it could actually see more smaller clubs going through, though? If you’re at home to a Man City, Arsenal or Liverpool and it’s a draw then yes you get a replay at their place and a big payday but realistically you’re never going to win that game. It’s a way of making sure that the big clubs almost certainly go through, as if they draw first time around they get another crack at it. If it’s a one off tie and the draw goes to penalties however… the smaller club has a much better chance of going through to the next round (and getting the prize money) surely?
They’ll have that covered. If the EFL team doesn’t win in 90 minutes then the EPL team will go through by default.
If they could swing it, they would want all EPL teams to join in the 4th round, except for the four who have Champions League commitments who go straight to the semi-finals.

If there are going to be no replays then I would like to see them get rid of extra time as well, straight to penalties increases the smaller teams chances of getting through.
I agree with this, it helps with the ‘players getting less minutes in’ and it would make it more dramatic. Imagine your team hanging on for the last few minutes knowing you’re going straight to penalties with a chance to knock a giant out…

The way they did it without consultation...awful, unquestionably.
The actual idea? I'm for it, BUT give the lower side guaranteed home advantage (German Cup does this).

The premier league foreign managers have wanted this for a long time. Always whinging about the amount of games they have to play. The premier league and television companies really don’t care about the smaller clubs down the pyramid.

To do this without any consultation with EFL league clubs is corruption.
Perhaps a refusal by clubs to pay any money to the authorities is in order.

If the clubs lower than the premier league really want to show their disgust at this then no point tweeting about it, just wait until a game against a premier league team in the FA cup on tv is about to kick off and then all the players, staff and fans just walk out, no game played.

That would give the FA kittens, can’t have that happening to the tv deal. But nothing like that will ever happen, clubs will just moan online, people will just moan online, maybe a banner in the crowd, that will all be ignored. No wonder the FA and Premier league do what they want, because they can.
