Charlton drawing 1-1 must have been more of an upset

Boy are they in trouble now - their last win was in November, they're one point above the relegation zone but have played three more games than Vale immediately below them. And their next three fixtures are Bolton, Pompey & Derby.

As for us - I don't think we actually played as well tonight as we did against Blackpool at the weekend (or Pompey two weeks ago).
But whereas on Saturday we played well but our finishing was lousy, today we generally didn't play great but our finishing was glorious. Football for you......

We knock it about at the back from side to side and try and bring the opposition out and then we try and play it in or over the full backs to get the wingers into the game, get crosses into the box and have plenty of players on the edge of the box ready if it comes out to them.
We’ll need more about us in the remaining games but I’ll enjoy the win all the same.

There was a move in the second half with a Rodrigues flick that resulted in a snap shot from Harris which was excellent. Would like to see us try more of that as I think we’ve got players capable of more than shovelling it in to the channels.

Good win, lots better 2nd half but still edgy at the back, I'm not sure I trust this team to see out a lead consistently. Purely a personnel thing rather than tactical.

I mean, 4th minute of injury time.....the ball gets clonked forwards and we have four players streaming after it with their only thought being let's get another goal (and they did!)

It's kind of admirable, but you wonder if we might have a few more points if we had a few more players with a ruthless, cynical streak that were willing and able to shut a game down.

Dale looked well off it tonight so hopefully he picks it up as he gets minutes. Think Murphy, Rodrigues and Goodrham should be the front three behind Harris next game.

McGuane drops out for me based on tonight. Back four a little shaky, know Long had a few bad moments, but Moore and Brown well below their best tonight as well.

Great to have three points mind, especially after going one down.

I thought we were poor tonight.

Cumming 6.7, made some decent stops and apart from a dodgy kick or two looked fine.

Long 5.0, looks a couple of levels below the required standard. Can’t move his body in to a position to attack the ball or to defend a cross. Poor distribution and mentally shot.

Leigh 6.5, not his old self yet but only a couple of weeks away.

Moore 5.0, very sluggish I thought and didn’t move his feet. Poor attacking the ball and looked like an old donkey.

Brown 6.2, gave the ball away and was off it by his usual standards.

Mcguane 5.8, no real purpose tonight and didn’t make his mark.

Matete 5.9, disappointing if I’m honest but in a few weeks he could start to motor.

Brannigan 6.8, tried to drive us forward in the way only he can. Ticked along but nothing spectacular.

Dale 5.0 didn’t do anything really.

Murphy 6.9, glad he got the goal, he did alright.

Harris 7.0, worked so hard and great body language. I think he’s a really good player.

Goodram 7.0 had a good impact on the game.

Ruben 6.1, gave it away and has of habit of simulating at the wrong times leaving us open to a counter.

Bodin 5.8, didn’t have long enough really but no impact.

Poor first half - better ,albeit scrappy in the 2nd , still, scoring 4 goals at home ,and going back into the playoffs will do

So it’s not a case of not knowing what the style of the team is under Des but more the fact you don’t like the style of the team under Des?

2 very different things.

Going to have to be better to beat Wycombe but the win was sorely needed.

Brannagan is just amazing. What a servant to OUFC that man is.

If long was a 5 then so was Moore and Dale was a 4.5.

Not sure what to make of that. Yet again we had less possession than our opponents and that’s got to be a concern. We need to keep hold of the ball and dictate the game a lot better. Hopefully that will come.

I was impressed with a few of Wigans players. I thought the tall no. 10 with the ponytail looked a class above. One of the better teams I’ve seen, great passing out to the wide players.

I know it’s a Tuesday and a long way to come but I was surprised at how few supporters they brought - it doesn’t seem that long ago they were in the Premier League.

Having said that, our support was exactly impressive either, especially considering it’s half term so more families could potentially come along. Hopefully as the results start to improve and the weather picks up the atmosphere and positivity will start to pick up.

Abject first half performance, much improved (although far from perfect) second half. Far too often we just don't seem completely on 'it'. We're far too one-paced and suffer too many mental lapses. When we play with intent and a bit of desire we look much better, but for whatever reason we just don't seem to be able to or want to do it for a full match.

It didn't work with Brannagan further forward in the first half. If we're going to play that midfield combination I think it needs to be a flat three as CB needs to be able to get on the ball and get his passing going.

I thought Harris was motm, although Goodrham's impact was very positive.

A win is good as it takes a little bit of pressure off of Saturday. Let's go there and really take it to them. COYY.

They often took small away followings in the PL, it's a rugby town, close to the big clubs of Manchester. Their hardcore support is probably similar or smaller than ours. Ifollow is a tenner, long way to go on a Tuesday and all that.
