Marriott, Harris, Donks (and potentially this lad from Liverpool?) would be a totally acceptable set of options going into the season in my view. Another left back would be great too but people are forgetting how fucked our squad was at the end last season and how many players/salaries needed to be resolved/moved on/etc. Rome wasn’t burned in a day.
Sorry to be a pedant but it’s “Rome wasn’t built in a day” although I’m entirely in agreement with the points you make.

PANIC we are spending money!!! God forbid.

It comes across as if people are frightened we are spending money, and would quite happily see us wheel and deal forever in a day in the loan and free agent market.

If you want to progress, you need to SPEND money. Once you’ve moved up, then more money comes in.

I think all the evidence suggests that while more money comes in when you get to the Championship, if you want to compete at that level a lot more money goes out! No division in world football hemorrhages cash quite like the Championship!

But seriously, what is wrong with effective wheeling and dealing in the loan and free agent market?
You don't need to spend money to win in League One. Plymouth just won the league and they didn't spend any cash until January (and only a modest amount then).
Does it makes things easier if you spend? Probably. But it also makes it that much worse if you **** it up.

This season will come down to the contribution of our aging squad players.

The first XI pretty much picks itself at the minute, however after watching the Bristol City match, there’s a clear drop off with the squad players.

Expecting our first choice 14 or so to carry us 50 odd games is unreasonable…can Bodin, Henry, Wildschut, Murphy give us anything meaningful in terms of minutes (and quality)?

I like the route we are taking with Woltman. It wouldn’t surprise me to see us do something similar with the LB.

It’s interesting that every forward the club bring in or show interest in, their goal numbers are brought up over and over again. Do you think our level of scouting and planning for what Liam Manning wants from his attackers stop at how many goals they have/haven’t scored at their previous clubs? We are clearly fronting up some cash for good reason so give the guy a chance and let yourselves be excited!
How do you work out how many goals a player hasn’t scored at his previous clubs?!

Wouldn't be surprised if Henry and Murphy have been told they can explore other options as per mannings quote a week ago or so about some squad players. Similarly one of our surplus goalkeepers and wildschut.

Not at all ,just think for half a million you can actually get better value.
It would be one of our biggest signings yet wouldn't be a guaranteed starter and could easily be a bit part player if Harris gets 10-15 goals to his workrate which along with the other forwards between them could well be enough rather than one getting 15-20.

I Wouldn’t mind us moving on Henry, Bodin, Murphy and Yanic, if at all possible..but think we will struggle, as assume they are all on big wages and carry injury risk..

One by one they all go one way or another, the most important thing is the ground, then the team are already following the next few years are going to be very exciting.

Fair point. We threw money around last summer and it landed us talents like Wildschut and Murphy.

More of the same, please.

Wheeling and dealing doesn’t always bring success, and that goes for spending money too.

But I’d argue spending money has a bigger success rate of achieving promotion.

The difference this time, is we have a competent adult in charge, and very good recruitment in place ie Waldron.

I think Murphy will come good this season, but Wildshut is a complete waste of time.

I can’t see Murphy going anywhere. We’ve only got Browne Goodrham and Mills as wide options. Brownes always due to be out a month or two of the season with an injury. I know we are bringing Burey in. But he might be coming as a striker if we don’t sign Marriott

Quite right. 6 days while Nero fiddled.
Didn't it burn for 9 days though? I thought they fought to get it under control, which took 6 days, but then it reignited and burned for another 3 before being extinguished?

And it wasn’t built in a day either, apparently!
