got to say it seems a spurious use of a copyright claim by the council in getting that taken down.To keep it separate from the more serious threads.
They maybe should have considered substituting in a better public speaker! Liz Truss has competition.
People being arrested for shouting "who voted for him", and in another case a solicitor being warned by the police for holding up a blank bit of paper seem like a fail in a working democracy.
Surely you mean 'while she reigned', rather than under her reign - your implication is that she was personally responsible in some way. Reining (no pun intended) myself in here but there is a wider conversation about privilege, perpetuation of the class system and levelling up - one for another time I think.Sorry - wasn`t a fail in Leicester but I`ll jump in anyway!
Presented by Mehmooda Duke CBE, County Council Chair, a Muslim woman, supported by a black City Lord Mayor, my mate George C, and Asian High Sheriff Michael Kapur OBE.
Very reflective of how the country has developed under HMQ`s reign.
Here's a thought. When I was a kid, it was pre-decimal so your coins were a mixture of those with the queen on them plus her dad plus various other Edwards etc and even an occasional Victoria penny. Those under 50 or so will (post decimal) only have ever seen money with the queen on it - I guess that will all change now.

but the guy in Oxford wasn't being arrested for "his own protection", there was no threat to him (other than some harrumphing) it was an overstep for a non-incident.Except they are almost all 100% over hyped by those with an agenda, rather than seeing it as good policing.
You can be arrested for your own protection especially if you are on the verge of a kicking from an emotional crowd. Applies to two cases one in Scotland and (shamefully), one in Oxford. Good policing.
A police officer telling someone the consequences of writing something on said blank paper isn`t a warning its a statement of fact, good policing.
The Parliamentary estate has specific controls in place, and rightly so, eg: you can`t stand in front of the gates, or on the HoP pavement to protest, but you can protest on Parliament Square opposite which is where the woman was directed too with her poorly written sign. The Police used "intimidation of presence" to move her rather than getting hands on, good policing.
Maybe folk should support those trying to uphold the law and look after everyone?
But your family, although "privileged" has not used their inherited "privilege" to have laws altered to benefit themselves I assume. They are not exempted from inheritance taxes (and indeed their estates kept officially secret in exemption from the requirement that they be published, decided by private court sessions where there can be no representation or reporting), their workplace is not exempt from certain H&S and equality laws (160 laws in total since 1967)? Police are allowed to enter their premises (with warrant if required) without their express permission to investigate crime? Its the stability the Monarchy brings that helps.
In 70+ years she has listened too & advised/supported 15 PM`s from across the spectrum.
Being born into privilege is, in itself, continuity, but even that system gets "watered down" and changes over a very long period of time.
A lived example of levelling up and privilege:
Our family company was established by 2 brothers in 1784, and has benefited (levelled up) many generations since.
It could also be said that all the subsequent generations have been born into privilege.
Today, despite expansion of the businesses into many other areas, the board are considering stopping the default, that all children of the current family get their "share" when they reach majority. That has already been moved from 18 to 25 to slow the dilution.
Up until 1945 or so only male heirs got a "share" so there are current board members that still know those "old" values and also how they have changed.
Life eh?
Seriously, "being born into privilege is, in itself, continuity" - do you actually believe this guff? Its the stability the Monarchy brings that helps.

Yes, you are right of course, there was a short crossover period. But for many now well into adulthood, they won't have seen any of those either!Britain went decimal before I was born but I do remember the shilling and 2 shilling coins with George VI on them being used as 5p and 10p coins.
Not sure the crossover period was that short tbf, I remember seeing the King's head on coins well into the 1980s before they all disappeared.Yes, you are right of course, there was a short crossover period. But for many now well into adulthood, they won't have seen any of those either!

Wow, didn't realise it went on for quite that long, but it was certainly a fairly common sight when I was growing up.Later than that!
"The shilling and two-shilling coins - used for 5p and 10p - were brought out of circulation in 1990 and 1992 respectively. For about ten years after decimalisation, the term 'New Pence' was used to distinguish newly-minted coins from the old pennies."

Do you have a link to that story? (not a link to someone gobbing off on Twitter, a proper news source) I can't see anything on their website about it.In similar news............ PNE implement a life ban on a fan who posted his opinions on social media.
Step too far or a private business exercising their right to exclude people?
