Current Player #21 Ed McGinty

According to the BBC report of the Motherwell-Sligo game, Motherwell had 'Liam Kelly' in goal.... thought he'd be WAY too tiny to be a goalkeeper.

Last season, Luke McNicholas done well on loan at Cliftonville. Was unlucky to have Ed Mcginty in front of him at Sligo,
Has the potential to do well, worth keeping a eye on.
Ireland producing some good keepers at the moment.
We’ve been pretty shrewd with signing Mcginty, doubt it’ll be long before the likes of Mayer and McNicholas are snapped up.

Poor start from Sligo this evening
2 down in first 8 mins.
Big mistake from McNicholas in goal for the first.
Keena looks dangerous enough, dropped back since mata came on.
Blaney and pijnaker have tightened up since pijnaker came. Banks doing well enough at right back.
Game over if they concede another before the return, some noise from 10k Norwegians.

Now he's our number 2 /1, looking at his style of play, he loves coming out of the area and going to ground at feet, this is obviously in his DNA, first half against Swansea was like he was on acid, but second half he looked more confident. Might not get away in future with his style, let's hope he's a little more composed next game.

Watched the highlights of Ed's debut and agreed he looked a bit manic and he will be more disappointed than anyone. Have to say in his defence, you wouldn't get that many errors in 45 minutes from the lad in 30 games.
Hope he keeps his place and that 45 was purely down to nerves and over exuberance.
Sligo Rovers beat Viking 1 nil in the second leg this evening for anyone who might have even the mildest of interest 😉

good he played in front of the East Stand 2nd half on Tuesday where we all got behind him, must have been a big lift for his confidence as the penalty shootout showed, he will be fine

Someone was giving him dogs abuse in the south stand, it even gave comment during the Radio Ox commentary.

Door wide open for McGinty now. A word though for Eastwood, fair play to him for reclaiming his place - for now. He‘s knuckled down and got the gloves again when it looked all he had left was the odd cup game. He’s doing alright too, hasn’t been greatly tested yet but can’t do much more than what he’s doing.

With all the comments about nerves, it's fair to say that Robinson was right not to start him at Derby away?

I think he probably was. Having had a look (https://www.extratime.com/articles/28949/2022-league-of-ireland-attendances---the-story-so-far/), Sligo Rovers home attendance averages about 2,500 this season (2,000 last full season) and the top draw in the league, Shamrock Rovers, this season average 5,300 (3,500 last full season). If he was understandably going to be slightly nervy on debut (and he was, before he settled down) then perhaps a debut away game in front of 32,000 might have been a big ask!

It will be interesting to see when he gets to play as first choice this season. Will he start out as the 'cup' keeper? Or will he go in as the 'league' keeper fairly quickly? Presumably that might depend on how Eastwood does...

Eastwood will be #1 unless his form drops off slightly. McGinty will play cup games, and I can see he and Stevens fighting it out for the number 1 jersey next season.

I sadly think it will be Simon Eastwoods final season with us. Which is fine by me! He’s been a terrific servant for us, and will wish him well in his future endeavours when that time comes.

Absolutely not.

If he’d started, he would have certainly made a big mistake after ten minutes to give Derby the lead.

However, he would have them become the hero at the end, going up for corners in injury time and scoring a pair of bicycle kicks.

The research is very clear on this one.

(But yes it was the right call. Particularly as he hadn’t even played any minutes in friendlies with our players).

Shame about your last para because I couldn't fault the rest of the logic 😃
