Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

Eustace hasn't won a game yet and could take Blackburn down.
He apparently wouldn't drop to L1 either
Are you sure about Eustace? Blackburn 8 games without a win 🤔
Eustace has got 8 points from his first 8 league games with Blackburn.

Blackburn got 2 points in their previous 8 games before he took over.

(Edit: Oh, and Des has a huge 9 points from his last 8 games with us! And got 8 points in his first 8 games with us…)

13 games unbeaten for Lincoln including 17 goals and 1 conceded in 5 matches. They appointed Skubala after Des and the contrast between the two appointments is insane.

One would assume that if Skubala applied for the Lincoln job he applied for the Oxford job too.

Problem is we’ve got TW and GF who probably haven’t got the balls to sack Des yet? It’s going to make them look like idiots just 5 months into a long term appointment.

However they’d actually show themselves in a much better light if they acted swiftly, which is what’s needed.

Oh dear. I really wanted him to work out. But tonight was just awful. It will cost a lot of money to cut and close. But I can't see him being trusted with a big summer transfer budget. Shame.

Des’ rallying cry: ‘Look at where we are and what we’re doing. Where we’ll be at the end of the season’

When it seemed to be down to Buckingham, Eustace and Williams I said I would be happy with any of them but my preference was for Des.

It's not worked and a clean break is needed sooner rather than later as I can't see how it can be turned around from here but I think people saying they knew it would be a failure because of where he came from are letting the results frame that as a fact. Barnsley are only four behind that Bolton team who gave us an absolute schooling tonight and have a game in hand with a manager fresh out of the second tier in America. When Manning did well at MK it was from the second division in Belgium. Skubala had never managed a team before and came from a futsal background but after a slow start has turned Lincoln into one of the form teams in the league, don't think they've lost this year and have scored 11 in their last two games.

As with any appointment the managers background won't determine whether they'll work out or not. No one knew it wouldn't work out like no one could have known that it would. It's pretty clearly been a failure though and that performance against Pompey was the outlier.

This is where we see whether Tim and Grant want to do the right thing by the club or save face in front of their employers.

I will get accused of 'repeating myself' by the usual suspects on the match thread so want to post my thoughts on this here.

Firstly, I have no ill-will toward Des, he will get a huge payoff and I'm sure that is a comfort to him, perhaps the CFG will give him a cushy job or there's a youth team he'd enjoy managing somewhere.

But I'm sorry, this is an utter, utter farce and he's the most out of his depth manager I can ever recall. There is no excuses left. We have strengthened in January, he has players to choose from who are very, very good players at this level (Brannagan, McGuane, Ruben R, Harris, Moore, Dale, Leigh) and he gets absolutely nothing out of them.

There is no style of play. We haven't played well in one entire game once in his entire tenure.

He exudes the energy of a lost puppy, a rabbit in the headlights perhaps. Nothing he says gives me confidence. There's a lot of modern football waffle in there but the proof is on the pudding, on the pitch it's unacceptable.

I find it hard to pin the blame on a squad which had us second. It's clearly mismanaged to f--k.

Key lessons we need to learn:
- never pay compensation for a manager. Too risky at this level
- Don't get sucked in by the local boy aspect.

We dropped a huge clanger not getting rid of KR earlier, Mousinho was clearly the man but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm not paying money to watch this farce any longer, yes, sacking him is expensive, but so is the cost of fans who won't bother turning up to watch this utter pish.

I've just listened to his interview. I feel sorry for him. Decent bloke, but afraid it's not working. As others have pointed out, two other new managers in L1 with similar backgrounds are doing very well. It's time to cut and close. What a shame.

Not sure that 8 points in 8 games is anything particularly good?

Jerome doing his best to defend Des on RO. Saying he needs more time.

Des can not be in charge for next season, season ticket sales will tank.

Surely we paid less for Des than we received from Bristol City for Manning so funds are there to pay him off?

Think he has Port Vale to either prove that he can get something out of them and come away with a good win , anything else just won't be good enough.

It is when you take over a side who are shot of confidence and have got 2 points from their previous 8 games!

For comparison, Des took over a side who had 17 points from their last 8 league games.

So Eustace went from 2 points to 8 points, and Des went from 17 points to 8 points. See the difference?

I felt up till now that Des needed time but tonights non performance has totally convinced me his time is up, possibly one of Oxford's worst ever appointments, i feel robbed of the £11.99 sky charged tonight, feel sorry for the fans who made it to the game.
