Manager/Coach Des Buckingham

I think that’s a little harsh. Wallop has obviously got the patience of a Saint. He entitled to that, just as we are to call for the manager to be fired.

I’m with you that Des has to go though.
Fair enough, but giving this clown until November is football suicide.

We know this group of players are coachable and capable of playing to a system.

We know that the squad is stronger (or at least not weaker) now than the start of the season

The poor form has now become embedded over 9 games with just one win and 20 games in there is no evidence of positive impact on the team overall or any particular evidence of a style of play.

It doesn’t look to me like players are not playing for him as much as don’t have confidence in him as a leader and his ideas (which presumably is mirrored each day in training) and he himself gives this impression in all interviews. Where he often comes across as exhausted and flat.

Much of the blame sits with the CEO for not appointing a strong assistant to someone so green. Which leaves the question hanging as to whether that would have made a difference. They are now faced with either appointing one and potentially doubling down on a mistake, drifting to a disappointing end of season with no good planning for next year or making a change now.

I would probably bite the bullet and change now if there is a strong available candidate

I don’t see what giving someone until November achieves. He’s got an abundance of talent at his disposal, and he cannot get a tune out of them. So what leaving it until November achieves is wasting another season, because a reaction then, means your likely playing catch up.

No, you can't sack a manager after just four months - but only because we'll struggle to sign a decent manager going forwards as it gives the wrong message to future candidates.

Concerningly, when we start on zero points next season, then if he takes his current form of 5 wins from 19 into the 24/25 season then he rightly deserves to be sacked by November.

As for this season, I'm afraid he will be forever known as being like those OUFC managers like Rix and Waddock. Those who took over when we were in automatic promotion positions and blew it.

I remember feeling similarly under Appleton. Utterly underwhelmed, and wondering why he couldn't get anything from the players. Despite these feelings, I was in favour of giving him the season, and then saw enough at the end to start feeling more optimistic about the following one. Let's have a bit of patience - the worst thing that happens is we're still in this division next season, which is more likely than not whatever we do now.

He’s got an abundance of talent at his disposal,

You're a parody of a supporter; you're blown over by the mildest breeze.

This squad has 1 at best 2 League 1 defenders (Brown, Leigh), a bundle of mediocre wingers and is epitomised by a perpetually angry scouser in a midfield assembled by a blind goldfish.

Unless things get really bad, I don’t think it’s worth making a change until the end of the season tbh

I really don’t have much confidence in him, turning it around, but We are not gonna get brought into a relegation battle this season, so may as well give it as long as possible to see if anything changes

I really do think he needs a proper assistant though. It's utterly bizarre that he hasn't got one

When you consider compensation and sacking him, would amount to around a £1m mistake. I think it will be a slow and painful death (KR style) rather than a swift moving on. If we'd got him on a free on a 2 year contract I think he'd be in big trouble because the standard of these performances compared to the quality of the players is probably the worst I've seen in 20+ years a yellow.

My original vote was that he should be given the summer to build a team. I am having major doubts about that now. He has got a lot of fairly decent players available now, but seems completely unable to weld them into a team or develop partnerships between players. Would allowing him to spend money on more/different players be sensible? At the moment I have my doubts.

……………………I’ll just leave this here.

I love the fact we have a given managers time to prove themselves.

However, I see zero improvement and zero identity on the pitch. Maybe it's as simple as the players don't warm to him but who cares.

The truth is we look lost. He's had many games to at least register his brand of football on the playing field but I see nothing. Absolutely zero.

Maybe, I give him three or five more games to either evidence some sort of plan / style or I fear the writing is on the wall...

Goodbye Des, I'm sorry it didn't work out.
