Tucker Carlson WILL be interviewing Putin, in Moscow.

He could face sanctions from the EU.

But as a journalist, should he be be able to interview him without any sanctions?

He could face sanctions from Aston Villa and Kraft foods too, which are about as likely as the they are from the EU!

He should, and will, be allowed to interview Putin, without sanctions.

Not like the EU to interfere, very strange. They're usually so laid back and non-controlling.

I hear what you're saying but we cant live in a free for all. We need to live under law and then have those laws enforced.

I realise I'm turning to Nazi Germany very quickly here but it's not a million miles away from Lord Haw Haw pushing the Nazi line during WW2.

I mean it sounds like the EU have stopped short of sanctioning him for now, but might do so in the future if his interview turns out to be Putin-aggrandizing propaganda.....

.....but regardless, he's an American citizen, interviewing a Russian. He doesn't have any rights in the EU. The EU already sanctions at least a dozen media outlets that it views to be "the Kremlin's disinformation and information manipulation assets". If they think Carlson is another puppet of the Putin regime, they can add him to the list.

I'd actually have much more of a hard time with it if they were talking about sanctioning an EU citizen, because the duty of a government ought to be to protect the rights of its citizens including free speech. But they have no obligations to Tucker Carlson.

In general, it's not a bad thing that a big name US political media figure is interviewing Putin. It's just a shame that it's a sycophantic, toadying, hypocritical hack like Carlson doing it. Guess Putin wouldn't agree to it with anyone that was actually liable to challenge him.

The death of Alexei Navalny, which is almost certainly the work of Putin, just goes to show just how morally bankrupt the likes of Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump really are. They really do need to stop brown-nosing this tyrant.

Even allowing for some slight possibility of it not being a killing (same week as a Russian ex-military pilot was apparently "randomly" gunned down in Spain), the fact they are hiding the body for a week - and the court case to demand urgent access has been "mysteriously" put back until 6th March.

They have nobody to answer to. Putin and the Russian government can do what they want to their people with impunity.
The West have tried sanctions, China watch on and N Korea and Iran help to arm Russia.
I am not sure how anybody can break the cycle of Putin murdering his enemies in Russia and abroad if that is what he wants to do.

He'll keep doing it till someone stops him with force, and the west simply won't do that.

I don't see why anyone would object to an interview with him though, or anyone for that matter.

It doesn’t help that two huge countries, China and India continue to buy oil from Russia, which in turn helps fund Putin’s war.

"Journalist" doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence
Pretty sure that he, successfully, argued in court that he was not actually a journalist. He's a propagandist and those who think he's a journalist are very very stupid people.

They’re all part of BRIC along with Brazil, so that’s not going to stop. South Africa and Iran are allies of that particular bloc, and it’s no coincidence that Iran has been heavily involved with instigating the war in Gaza via Hamas, and have subsequently been very keen to initiate the Houthi shenanigans, while South Africa is attempting to prosecute Israel via every method and means, from the ICJ to the UN. It’s all geared towards overloading and destabilising the west, and in particular taking eyes and resources away from Ukraine. China will go for Taiwan when the time is right, too. Probably wait for Trump to get back in and start setting fire to everything again. They can wait.

Russia has been at it for years, interfering in multiple elections and pushing everything from Trump to Brexit, in an attempt to chip away at NATO and the EU while reducing both the USA and UK to political laughing stocks, with clueless leaders incapable of providing much opposition. The likes of Carlson and the rest of his silly ‘alt-right media’ ilk are puppets who have been groomed and allowed to flourish for years, in an environment created by bots and bad actors, but they probably don’t even realise that. They’re blissfully unaware of their own role in a game designed to destroy their own way of life; too busy shouting at each other on their Russian-founded app (Telegram) while their kids spend all their time on their Chinese app (TikTok) to notice that they, and the rest of the west, has already lost.

Probably.

Depressing isn’t it.

Add to that Covid which hasn’t done the West any favours.😳
