National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Don`t knock a paper round too much..... had to do one when mortgage rates went through the roof.
One of those local free newspapers jobs, would do 50% and recycle the rest, as long as you remembered the cycle of odds & evens nobody ever complained they never received it. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Always thought you were a fraud. Thanks for the proof.

When you had to do 3 jobs to keep a roof over your head something has to give.
Life can get tough for everyone, I`m not unique or privileged like some despite being White British.

If only they had the Just Giving website back then.

I knew I could have counted on you for support. ;)
Back in those days the internet was on dial up and pence per minute on the phone bill..... standards have slipped since. :)

@Essexyellows is off to meet with the affected fisherman to explain the errors of their ways to them. You could join him, take a detour, and enlighten this cheesemakers as to his 'naivety'.

One 'ask' from me: Could you record the er 'conversations' and post them verbatim on here please.... if your fingers and arms are still working.
So you not only presume to know a fellow posters gender, you also presume/assume that I have upper prosthetic limbs.
Take a chill pill.
Find another crusade.
It is much overdue.

You don't get rid of me that easily. I'll stop when we start to see the promised benefits of Brexit which according to Jacob Rees-Mogg might not be for another 50 years. 😳

Vaccine programme seems a fairly good start.* :ROFLMAO: :)

*yes I am being facetious before I get the predictable "broad bushing/gaslighting and moving the goalposts"

Makes a change from whining wine importers.
He will adapt his business because change is constant.
If he doesn`t....... he fails and somebody else takes the opportunity.
As has been explained many times it will take more than 3 months to sort things out after 40 years......... the cheesemakers may well find a home market for their product.
Great to see owners adapting their businesses to the benefit of the UK.... (checks report) EU economy.

Alternative view he has expanded his business as his UK business remains, the UK may have missed out on some of his tax etc. but proportionally it is a drop in the ocean.
According to CH he had 14 employee`s in 2020 ......but there we are.
It was also pretty clear that an EHC would be needed and it would take time to implement.

From the article.....

"All exports of products of animal origin to the EU – including many pet foods – now require an export health certificate (EHC) signed by an official certifier. We’ve always been clear that there would be new processes for traders, and we continue to support them in their transition to these new arrangements,” a spokesman for Defra said.

There`s a good reason for that on both sides... stops the spread of diseases that can decimate livestock and trade.

Late in the day DEFRA may have said there would be new (to the UK) processes, the problem is DEFRA didn't know exactly what those processes would be. Prior to this admission such claims of additional red tape were shouted down as project fear. You might remember that.

No one is saying their isn't good reason for these processes they just didn't apply to us whilst in the EU.

Not wishing to be dull but EHC`s (important as they are to all parties) have always been required for non-European countries.

Now, if chappy couldn`t work out in the 4 to 5 years that we were going to become a non-European country ourselves then there is little hope.

Back in November 2020 even those EU loving Scots had it clearly spelt out on their website what folk would need.... https://spice-spotlight.scot/2020/11/30/after-the-transition-period-export-health-certificates/

He has chosen a better option for his niche business, it won`t apply to everyone and each business will make the choice that suits them best. The vast majority will want to get through Covid and see what happens then, even those across the Channel...

You know that picture of straws you did....

It doesn't matter how you care to spin it he's moved part of his business to the EU, as many small businesses in his position are doing, reducing UK employment and taxation. Called out as project fear before the referendum, proven to be correct post Brexit. It's a fact not an opinion.

You didn't type FACT in captials or include the words "END OF", so it can't be true[emoji849]

Your ongoing triumphalist crusade calls into question the true reason for highlighting such stories.
Is it the subject that is important, or you, in continuously reminding us,that you were apparently “right” 🤔

The thread is called Brexit 31/1 20. What were you expecting to find here? Huh 🤷‍♂️?

At least the Government have seen sense on the EU Horizon programme and committed £250million in funding towards it.

The government are slowly getting it, in that they need to cooperate and collaborate in order to be successful (and for their vision of us as a global R&D superpower to come to fruition) and that this ridiculous notion of going it alone in splendid isolation won't actually work all that well on the global stage.

In any case £250m is chicken feed compared to the £350m we now save a week and are ploughing into the pockets of the chumocracy [emoji6]

‘Brexit will be good for the economy, any talk of businesses leaving is project fear’

‘See, businesses are leaving!’

‘God, stop going on about it already’

You mean like that "Free Trade Deal" we joined 40 or so years ago? If only that hadn`t evolved into the USE....... ;)
