Current Player #16 Tyler Burey

This s**t show isn’t going’s to be solved by change of formation, tactics or starting line up. This is a leadership thing and the environment that is subsequently suffering from lack of it. P45 for our Des…pronto.
Absolutely agree Gregor!

So, we scouted Burey for quite some time. We were linked in the summer and settled for signing him on loan in January.

Most people in football had the same opinion, questionable attitude and application but a good player. The recruitment team would have absolutely known this for the entire season before he joined.

Burey signs.

Looks like a good player in the 5 games he played, then dropped and never seen again for questionable attitude and application in training.

Then again hindsight is a wonderful thing.
But this is fine, isnt it. We sign him on loan. If it doesnt work out he goes back at the end of the season. It was worth a risk but sometimes these things dont work out.

Being given 'a proper chance' includes time at the training ground, not just match time.

So, on that basis, McGuane, Rodrigues and Bodin have downed tools but they still get picked? How does that work? Seems a lot of a**e about face team selection going on here. Which is it? Don’t train well so no chance despite looking promising in fleeting appearances or down tools in matches, presumably train ok, and get picked? Confusing to say the least.

In the match time he has been given he's looked promising, and clearly more than able to add much needed pace to the squad in a much needed position.

We've seen a lot of players play consistently poorly during matches and still get picked, so is the message that as long as you train well what you actually do on the pitch in a professional game (which is surely the most important) is irrelevant?

Allegedly downed tools.

Isn't this simply a case of a player not being in the team suddenly having his stock rise because of the current results? It is just too easy for people to point to Burey and call him the saviour of our season at the moment.

And I'd say that not causing massive disruption with the rest of the squad is as important as what you bring to the pitch, unless you are an absolute mile above the rest of the league in ability, which I don't think is the case here.

Given the alleged misdemeanours linked to Burey that have been alluded to on this forum.

There is a big difference between those and playing poorly in matches.

We'll never know if it would've worked out because he hasn't been given a proper chance!
Who do you play him ahead of out of Murphy and Dale? Goodhram is back, Browne is coming back now. Bruery could have proved a point in training and worked hard to show he wanted to get back into the squad, clearly he hasn’t done this.

Is that the same McGuane that got dropped from the whole match day squad last game and didn’t travel?
It has always been allegedly down tools.

Unless he’s he’s been officially suspended or punished i think we should give him a go from the bench, he’s proved he can worry defenders and we’ll need that threat. If he’s done something really bad it’s ok to tell us he’s been fined or sent back.

Are we not contributing to his wages? Did we not pay a loan fee? Is he not taking up a squad place? Could we not have signed someone else instead?

Forever baffled by this nonchalant attitude to recruitment.

We're only using 20 of 22 permitted Over 21 squad places, so his signing isn't an issue there.
In hindsight, his wage is becoming a waste of money that could have been spent elsewhere.

Obviously the target is a 100% success rate with every signing, of every nature.

The fact that no club has ever achieved this should tell its own story.

Loads of signings don't work out. Looked a good one on paper, looked a good one on the pitch briefly, but something has clearly happened which means he isn't wanted or needed. It's a shame but it's not a scandal.

Yes, it does seem like that. Training is what it seems all about. Burey, good in matches, s**t in training, frozen out. McGuane, Rodrigues, Bodin, presumably flying in training, s**t in matches but in every squad it seems.

Could do with some sort of clarity from the manager though. Some sort of explanation why Burey can’t force his way into the squad, never mind the team that has been largely rubbish for the past 3 months he’s been here.
