General Sky Sports EFL Deal

What a lot of you seem to have forgotten is that Sky Bet are the primary sponsors of the EFL. The Sky organisation pumps a lot of money into the sport as a whole. We may not appreciate their patronising coverage and apparent disdain at lower league football but, without them we would be a lot worse off.
correct me if i'm wrong but Sky Bet are not Sky they are owned by the Stars Group, although i take your point

Portsmouth v Plymouth Argyle

Both games involve former Premier League teams so they can talk about how sad it is that those clubs have "fallen so far"

They're not interested in League 1 and 2, they're interested in ex-Premier League sides

That's exactly what i've said elsewhere though, they show those teams because like it or not they will have the higher audience figures.

i'm not so sure that it's that they're not interested as such but more to do with lack of demand = less viewing figures.

Unfortunately that's the way the game has been allowed to go, the clubs in our league and below have done themselves no favours by agreeing to a blackout again and why all these clubs will need a monumental effort to entice the new generation of fans to their clubs.there is so much more than just football for people/families to do these days.

if the grounds do not fill for a game with people on the doorstep then how and why are a wider audience going to be interested.

Sky Sports has announced Sky Sports+ which will show ALL live Sky Sports events, including all the EFL games. The app can show up to 100 events at any time!

Surely the 15:00 - 17:00 Saturday blackout will still be in force? Any game kicking off before or after, or not on a Saturday would be available to stream but otherwise, I was of the opinion that the EFL had kept the blackout in place?

I think its been mentioned that select games will move to a Sat pm or Sunday?

All midweek games will be shown for all clubs. Sky say each EFL team will be on at least 20 times a season.

Have to hope that it will still be possible to watch the odd game that does kick off at 15:00.

Apologies if this has already been discussed (please delete is so Admin), but I couldn't find it.

The Sky TV deal next year is huge. It's a big change for League 1 and 2, but even more so in The Championship. They're televising 328 Championship games next season - there are 552 played in total all season. Of the 12 fixtures played every week, five will be broadcast. In terms of the current 3pm blackout, I can see they've confirmed it'll be lifted for the opening weekend, but not said anything more than that yet. It'll surely have to be?

There will still be the 3pm blackout except for the opening game ( where there is no PL)
Could be some very awkward timing of games for us....

Never ever thought I'd find myself saying this but with no Ifollow and family commitments making away games harder these days, I might have to look into a Sky subscription

Ironic that the one principle that seems to be sticking, to "protect" 3pm kickoffs, is likely to kill off a big chunk of them for us entirely.

Yeah, people want to defend it all costs to the point that over 50% of our games won’t kick off at 3pm on a Saturday next season, it needs to be binned off now, it’s antiquated.

So a majority would be on weekends, but not 3pm Sat?

Be a similar amount of midweek games I should think, just a lot more 12.30pm and 5.30pm games thanks to keeping the 3pm Saturday black out.
Had a quick look back at fixtures in the Champ last month, Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening fixtures seem to be a pretty regular thing to pop up.

I have Sky and I forgot about that, although I suppose they will be bundled up in the 5 games televised in a round of fixtures. There will only be a maximum of 7 championship 3pms games on a Saturday now though, so it’s going to be a fair few player at other times.

Saying that we had a very long run both this and last season with no Saturday league home 3pm games so maybe not quite the change it seems it will be.

Being the new boys and the under dogs then expect a lot of games that aren’t 3pm. We will get a lot of Friday/Monday nights, 12.30pm Saturday KO’s and also the odd Sunday. Sky don’t get the premier league 12.30pm KO so it is generally always a championship game.

I guess there is always a price to pay for success…
